Just Another Day...

I see them every day,

I hurry past them,

As my conscience reflects my act,

Am I blind, or are they invisible,

Have my hands become weighed down,

By things selfish and greedy.

They are everywhere,

Conspicuous at cross roads,

Under over bridges,

At the corner of streets,

The people of lesser God,

Or shall I say, lesser men,

Who have become immune to sensitivity,

Blinded by the lights of metal and steel,

Pressed hard for the tick tick,

Of man made time division,

Not knowing that someday,

Somewhere over the rainbow,

We too shall have a similar fate.

How can I justify my act,

How can I keep gorging and lying,

How hollow have I become,

For to give a bit of myself,

Makes not a beggar of me,

But matters tears of joy for them.

In winters, when biting rain and snow,

We warm ourselves, in front of fires,

They roam about ,looking for a piece of bread,

What harm, what act of such injustice,

Have befallen them,

To face such a life,

Of naked brutality of survival,

A fight every day,

When no tears fall, either from their eyes,

Or for them,

Blame not God, for humanity we crush,

By giving them sermons,

Which feeds not on an empty stomach.

I am an equal sinner,

I too have a confession to make,

I seek no atonement, for my action,

Is too miserable,

I have lost myself in false paradise,

While they awaken each day,

To hell on earth,

An uncertain certainty.

So light a bonfire,

For all the lost and weary souls,

Throw in your vanity, sycophancy,

Insensitivity and callousness,

Fill the out stretched arms,

With empathy in action,

For there is no more miserable beggar,

Whose hands are tied, and heart clogged,

forever filled with worldly desires,

But knows not, that with empty palms,

Shall we depart,

To Heaven or food for maggots.
