Romance Tragedy Fantasy

Is it enough?

Is it enough?

The bare minimum we do to make it work,

The fleeting loving moments, we left in the dirt,

Crossed our hearts, and promised not to hurt,

In the world of imposters, have we too turned…?

Not a cheater, you should be happy and, celebrate his return.

And here I stand, asking again, is that enough?

“Are you okay?” Is our favorite thing to ask,

But nobody cares if it’s a “happy” mask.

Sometimes we’re sweet, and at times, we’re sour,

We say hurtful things to each other at odd hours.

No apologies to follow, but silent agreement it is,

And here’s why I keep asking, is that enough?

What-ifs and what-nots rule the mind,

If they’re not one, should someone else we find?

One fight is all that can take it to hell,

I wish one of us could just ring the bell!

No breaks but a break-up, we all sought for,

And repeat the same cycle, till the heart turns sour.

Which is why I ask, is that enough?

We see the patterns but not of our own,

We can do no wrong, it’s sunk in our bones.

The self-reflection and analysis, we so direly need,

I am this, I am that, grow inside us like weeds.

Winning big on the ego, but losing bigger on the faith,

Only to cherish the eerie past’s wraith…

So, you tell me now, if it’s enough.

Not understanding and always at odds,

My mind and heart, both acting like frauds,

Betray me over and over, blinding my thoughts,

Self-loathing and doubts connecting the wrong dots,

To me and the world, I am a hero in my story,

Behaving like a foe, my insecurities in full glory.

And there I go over and over again, questioning myself, is it enough?
