I Too Had A Friend!

My summers were always spent,

Watching, little birds build their nests.

In the niches of my homes,

In the backyard where they could freely roam!

Looking at these artistic creators,

My eyes used to be filled with wonder;

And my heart would rejoice with immense joy!

Before I knew, they had become my most awaited friends.

 

My childish heart was in love with them!

They became part of my childhood fantasies,

From them, I heard the most melodious music,

With them, I experienced the drench of the first shower! 

The twilight of the early hours!

With them, I experienced abundance and delight!

With awe-filled eyes, I would marvel at her might!

Time passed, and my childish, dreams and fantasies,

Were fast replaced by realities.

But still whenever I had time,

I would sit on the windowsill and watch these friends of mine.

She would look up at me with questioning eyes

As if asking, “ Where had you been all this while?”

She would sense something missing within me,

And sit by my side,

And soothe my restless heart with her comforting hymns.

 

Today, tired and lonely, I stood by the window side,

My heart longed for my childhood friend,

But she was nowhere in sight!

I wonder why my friend deserted me? 

I stepped out to find.

I went for a walk to the park,

And was saddened to see their numbers there too had declined!

What used to be a common sight, is pleading for her rights?

As if crying her heart out and calling aloud,

"I am the same little birdie friend!"

The humblest and the noblest, with whom you spent hours!

Who had filled your heart with incredible joy and delight!

I still have the same music, but it is lost in the noise you created!

I realized my friend needed me and I was not there by her side!

I, not she, had deserted her side!

 

My heart bled, 

She was my most dependable friend!

On me, she had always showered her incredible wealth,

And her, I set out to destroy?

I sat in deep anguish, at the same windowsill

And noticed, without the magnificent presence of my friend

Everything was dull and lifeless!

The melodious music was replaced by resounding sadness!

 

Through the silence, I could hear her plea, 

“Give me, my little space, for your future, me you please embrace!”

I promise once again,

Your world will be filled with sunshine and rain!

Too ashamed of myself, I had nothing to say,

I gulped down tears of realization and pain.

I went down on my knees and opened my arms,

At looked at her with hope in my eyes and a promise in my heart.

With you my friend, "I want to relive my childhood experience and

Fill my life with abundance and joy!”

This time I promise, we will walk side by side...
