Gone
Gone

I’m coming back home
From a foreign land,
My stay there was longer than planned.
So much had changed during my time away;
I couldn’t find my abode, couldn’t remember the way.
I stood on the street, my feet wouldn’t move,
There was nothing I recognised
As if everything was disguised.
Am I deranged, I thought to myself,
Or has everything truly so greatly changed?
I looked around and everything was alien
Full of unfamiliar buildings and faces
So I frantically began to search for traces to lead me back to the familiar places.
Until I realised home used to be the ground I was standing on
And everyone I knew was now gone.
I fell to my knees, devastated;
I was gone too long
And guilt is the price I will pay lifelong
For I’ve come back
From a foreign land
To a foreign land.
