First move of love

First move of love

The first move of love,

was writing a letter to me,

about why he was late,

his list of reasons didn’t include traffic,

it included my complicated address and why we wouldn’t work out.

I argued that we eventually would recognize each other,

amid this mass of people we are surrounded with,

he pointed out that each time we want something,

we can’t create it out of thin air.

Love was full of apprehensions,

and I, of reasoning,

love was full of surprises,

and I was never a fan,

yet he turned up at my door, hiding behind a veil of flowers,

it felt like he knew me more than myself.

Love had been hurt, time and again,

forgotten, even,

I told him not to fret,

each time he will find me in the crowd again.

So I asked love to believe beyond heart’s flare,

and the last move of love

became writing a letter with me, for us,

telling ourselves that we are not alone,

telling ourselves that we would make only one promise to each other, and that is to keep all promises.
