Middle Of The Night

Middle Of The Night

It's the middle of the night,

I am awake, the pillow has gone dry,

All I can think of is that I am no longer thinking of you,

I am no longer thinking of the day we met,

And the day we knew this was meant to be,

It was supposed to be, wasn't it?

I've come to realize that people are meant to stay,

Just until they leave,

And when they do,

Especially the seemingly closest ones,

More than loss, I have always felt numbness,

I don't have the courage,

Not anymore,

To wonder why they left,

Was there even a reason except continued silence?

Was there even a reason except that we never thought about each other at the same time?

So the next time someone chooses to walk in my life, I'd suggest you get an expiry date with you,

Because I'm tired of opening up,

And introducing myself again, repeat my name like it's going to hold a new meaning each time,

Tell you my hobbies, and why darkness scares me,

Explain my preference of sending you texts with black hearts over red,

And why each time I smile, it's not a happy one.
