One Less Lonely Night
One Less Lonely Night

The evening we met
Was the day I had almost given up on everything,
But then you showed up
With a light drizzle of rain
Following just behind.
From that night
I only remember one thing,
You whispering
That everyone is worthy of love
And all we need is for someone to take a chance on us,
Without leaving.
You held my hand
As we silently walked in the
Dark of the night,
At one point
I trailed behind,
I couldn’t let you see
My glistening eyes.
Ours was a story
With an unexpected beginning
And an unhoped for middle,
But the writer in you
Couldn’t wait to find the end.
And you walked out the door the other day
Mutual, yes, I should understand
But just maybe
I don’t agree,
For my heart often tends to live in the right place
At the wrong time.
So here I am,
Asking for one less lonely night,
Come find me
I’m still waiting
With a table laid for two,
But please be in no hurry
Because didn’t we always agree
Ours had been a two-cups-of-coffee kind of story.
