Failed Enamor

Failed Enamor

A salty smile with kohl-lined eyes; setting my heart on a fiery desire-

She sat beside me speaking things she seemed was worth telling;

With each moment I fell for her,

I did not see that coming, didn’t foresee I was to be friend-zoned forever.

I was her best friend though, she confided in me; we spent hours walking together-

I was the sailor and she was my sea; I was stupid and she was my glee,

One day she dragged me by the arm, made me meet her new ‘boyfriend’,

Castles of sand crumbling to an end.

Years went through, with ‘her’ still fresh in my mind, and how could I ever forget her?

“I too love you, but you’re my best friend!” the day I was friend-zoned forever.

Her smile isn’t salty anymore, I’ve lived long enough to bear the pain, told myself “I was the best friend she could ever get”
