Chronicles of a Civilian
Chronicles of a Civilian
With your badge of power
You stripped him off his dignity before the world
With your weapon you injected fear
The color of his skin makes him an animal
Gaurded he should be, he cannot control himself.
An innocent man trying to provide for his children
Is gunned down, forced to kneel and beg for his life
Beg for his life just for the sake of his children
Authority not known, control is daily bread
Izingane ziyakhala ekhaya
Ikati lilele eziko
While this man is on his knees begging for his life
Pleading hearts of stones just for mercy
His crime was poverty
How can he deny nature
Hunger is a call from nature
Yet these law makers only see a table to feast
You see...
It don't matter how many innocence you forced on their knees
Humiliated before the world, the all seeing eye
Still respect is earned not demanded.
The streets are a war zone now
Civilians against weapons that move
Humans turned into walking weapons
Civilians suffer the consequences
They fight hunger inside their homes
And fight the law outside
Just because they have no authority
These children sit by the door expectantly
Breath smells nothing but hunger
They await the return of this man
The disappointment in their hungry eyes
When they see him walking in, empty-handed
Only fresh scars and wounds dripping blood
The only proof of his innocence.
Civilians suffer in the hands
That's meant to protect them
The law meant to protect them
Is used as a weapon against them
Rights aside
The human race knows right from wrong
Yet the truth remains
These are the hearts of stone.
