Calling Bessie

"Hey, there Bessie how would you be?"

"What's that got to do with why you called me?"

Her much expected answer, but I still felt bad

"Nothing it's just a doubt I had."

Yeah, a doubt, when would you accept me?

I didn't say that aloud, just asked her if she was free

"To waste my time, did you ring?"

Of course, for her, my love life was a trivial thing. 

"No, it was a lesson in class"

My precious lady was a math lass

I called her, though, not for a math question

Math was only when we both were in the equation

"Well?" she said after a pause.

I think I should tell her the cause

Of my tensed conversation attempt

Only if a few words someone lent

I can't string two words, my throats dry

" question two" I gasped, ohh the lie

" Ohh quadratic equations..." she rambled on,

That's it, my chance was gone.
