An Ode To The Feminine Voice
An Ode To The Feminine Voice
Silent?
Why?
You have a beautiful voice
Raise it and speak
With your chin up high.
But it’s too hard
With all these doors
Shutting me out;
Sewing my mouth
Like tattered pieces of clothes,
Throwing my voice,
On these ice-cold floors.
Your voice is like a flower
That needs care and nourishment
The seed needs no support
To grow —
It only needs some prolific earth,
Only some damp rain,
Only the radiant golden sun,
And a devoted caregiver.
And that caregiver is you, my friend —
It’s you through and through.
Author’s note: I wrote this poem as an ode to all the women who have to hush up their voices so that they cannot fight against the injustice prevailing in our society.
