A Tale Of A Woman

A Tale Of A Woman

For a moment when you remembered me,

I was standing still-

As a nation's pride, free of prejudices and full of hope,

Centuries passed, kings tasted the wine that moistened my lips,

I too became a slave of destiny,

Tortured, butchered, in ecstasy and superstition,

Denied of love and valor,

I waited for you to reveal my bossom,

Stone by stone you brought me to life,

Gave me a reason to live,

Your warmth gave me light.

To stand up for dignity of womanhood,

To speak for our rights and needs,

You called me your better half,

You embraced me

in relation.

But I never dared to ask you, your name,

Perhaps you too were a pawn in the times' game,

A heavy price you paid,

For creating me with your imagination,

And in a soft whisper you were gone!

Some said I loved you,

Some said I was kept,

Some abused our eternal love,

Some found in it a reason for lust.

Today when I found the rain-

The same rain that touched us centuries ago,

Your vivid memories created a mosaic of thoughts that connected me to you,

Devoid of any ego or hurt,

But as a story of a woman who won and lost!
