Legend

"Legend says that if you bathe in this river,

You become a hero."

I jumped in the river with my friends.

They lifted the water in bowls and showered me,

As if with presents,

Hoping one day we all become legends.

The water was cold,

Glowing and yet translucent.

I should have known that bathing in this water,

Births legends.

My friends and I go off to war,

Every single day now,

Fight off evil with just our bare hands,

We know no life, no love, no end.

Should have jumped in the river,

That gave you life instead.

What they don't tell you about legends,

Is they need to fight,

They need to keep growing

And they need to hide,

From love, from family afraid to hurt them.

They don't tell you how lonely it gets,

At the top of this mountain,

And each of us got the ranges instead.

Now we stand on distant peaks,

Hoping we could go back to the time,

When we would jump in the water,

Unafraid, together,

Thinking we could be legends.
