When You Hurt, I Hurt

I tell you all the time I live big and I also love big. So when someone I love is hurting, I feel their pain and I hurt too, as I know how their heart is breaking. Well that goes both ways and recently my dear cousin has been reaching out to me more than usual. She said she can feel my pain, what I am dealing with even though I really haven't said too much about my troubles. 

When you are that close to a person they don't need to tell you what's going on. You feel it, you sense it because you are that connected and it hurts you as well.

I remember years ago when my best friend at the time was dating this guy and she literally caught him cheating on her. She was beyond herself, I went to her, we talked and cried for hours. She was broken hearted and I was just as broken hearted for her.

I felt her pain, I knew what she was going through, and I was mad. I wanted to beat his ass because he hurt her so badly. When I care about someone I am all in, I will defend you till the end, I have your back and yes, I feel your pain.

People tell me I should guard my heart, not love so big. That I shouldn't let people get in that close but that's not me, it's not who I am. If I get hurt, so be it, it will be a lesson learned.The people that really love you and are in your corner will all feel this way, when you hurt, they hurt. 

That is just the way love is. When you love someone so fiercely that you want to protect them from pain, take the pain they are feeling and give it to you so they won't hurt anymore. I know all the parents can attest to that feeling with their children but it isn't just that parent/child bond it's all bonds in your life that you love that deeply.

When you love someone you want the best for them. You want their happiness, you want them to succeed, to be the best they can be. You don't want them to go through what you did, the pain and hardships you experienced.

There are so many songs that say these words, if I could only shield you from the pain. And it's so true, you can't but you can feel it just as my cousin is feeling mine. 

So today my friends, I am here to tell you that if you have even one person in your life that is looking out for you, you are blessed.

If you have someone that hurts when you hurt, that feels your pain even without telling them, you my friend are a lucky person.

Because we all need that one person who will always be there, our ride or die, that knows us and still loves us despite all else.

And maybe, just maybe if you're lucky enough you may be that person to someone else, you may be that blessing, it is then you will know the true meaning of when you hurt I hurt.
