They were dancing to everyone’s most favourite love song ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran.

I managed to make myself comfortable at the cozy corner of the room, with a glass of juice. Yes, I don’t drink alcohol. I rested my elbow on a pillow, and saw everyone swaying with their lovers, all in love.

It had already rained a lot that evening. Some trees got uprooted and blocked the roads. It was my best friend’s birthday, so I couldn’t deny the invitation.

Just like a normal house party, everyone was at their own comfort. The room was dimly lit and it created a very romantic and happy atmosphere. Everyone looked pretty and were enjoying themselves.

I went up to the kitchen and kept the glass near the sink. Through the window of the kitchen, I saw it was raining, all over again.

I came out and went to the balcony.

Though the trees looked greener, the roads were muddy and already there’s a power cut in the very next block.

By the time I was standing and enjoying my own company, I heard the song changed to ‘All of the stars’. I smiled at those Ed Sheeran fan from the balcony and found my way back to that cozy corner again.

But this time not alone.

When I just went to sit there, a boy came up to me and offered to dance. I hesitated and told him that I don’t know how to dance and I may really embarrass him. But he smiled and said that he doesn’t know how to dance either. We laughed and went to discover it. My best friend smiled and winked at me.

So, we both were standing in the middle of everyone with ‘Perfect’ once again playing at the background. He placed his hand firmly on my waist and I placed my hand on his shoulder. He asked if I was comfortable, I nodded. So, as the song continued, we swayed and smiled. In the dimly lit room, with rain outside, the evening was indeed perfect. When the song came to an end, everyone had stopped dancing by then, except us. We laughed at our own style of dance. Romantic, funny and weird, as it was, we were enjoying it. He went and changed the song to ‘Magic’ by Coldplay. And that was my favourite. We danced again in the empty room, when everyone was busy having dinner.

We were closer now and I could listen to his breath too. There was bright shine in his eyes and the way it looked into mine, my heart skipped a beat. The more we were coming closer, I could smell his perfume. Drawn into some other space of magic, we hugged. He removed the strands of hairs from my forehead and touched my cheeks. He told how weird and messed up person he was. How he always wanted to dance weirdly like this, but never could. He looked so familiar that moment. May be a person I want to belong to; someone I was always looking for even without searching for it. The song was over and it got automatically changed to some song, I don’t remember now. We were so into each other.

He put his arms around me and kissed me. I kissed him back. We laughed again at our weirdest dance. The rain had stopped by then, and he wanted to leave early. He went to my best friend and they had a small conversation.

He came back to me and smiled. I walked him up to his car. As it was the time to say goodbye, he kissed me again, this time for a longer time. He hurried into his car and wrote his name and number and handed it to me. We smiled and he drove away.
