Unsung Orator

Deepu, our school leader won 3rd price for all India elocution Competition held at Delhi. Since it was the first biggest price earned for school, he was greatly honoured.

Amidst all the applause given to him, no one bothered to acknowledge the Sudakar who helped Deepu in preparing the speech for the competition. If anyone is in need of a speech for class assembly or competitions they would approach Sudakar to prepare their speech. The sad fact about Sudakar was that he was dumb!

Once when school was dismissed, I saw him standing in front of a mirror and straining to talk. Tiny tears were seen on his face. By seeing this I said to him."I know you are very disappointed you could not speak but one thing is that you have many innovative ideas in you. The price gained by Deepu and others is the testimonial for it. So why can't you start writing articles to leading newspapers and participate in essay writing competitions. My friend, focus on your strength and not on your disability."

These words instilled confidence in Sudakar. Soon he began to send articles to various leading news agencies and it was published in editorials. He was made student editor for a leading weekly. All this happened because he focused on his strength and not on his disabilities.
