Scene-1

After a long 3 weeks of work marathon, without any week off, finally at 4 pm on a Sunday, I could manage to get a person from UC who could help me in getting a bit pampered.

Finally, I got a notification on “my gate” app which says, that the person named Ammu has arrived from UC.

Suddenly, I got realized that due to office work, I could not even have my lunch, today! I just rushed to have something & made Ammu to wait for 5-7 mins.

I was excited to start the service which would be my much awaited “Me time”.

After lunch, I took her upstairs in my bedroom to start the waxing, threading & cleanup and as usual my 5.5 years old son followed me, though he always does so, but today, I really wanted him to be there downstairs and spend that time alone, being selfish, but I was still looking forward to “me time”.

It didn’t happen as I couldn’t really convince him to go down & be away from me. Ammu started her service with threading, what a dreaded job, it pained a lot after 2 months of long break. I was taking breaks while Ammu was doing threading of my eyebrows and my son was constantly laughing and making fun of me. At the same time, he had been quite vigilant and observant watching her do the threading work. I was getting anxious as it was really paining for me and I was feeling bad that my humanity lessons were not paying off, this little creature is having fun while someone is in pain!

He continued even with my intermittent lecturing and persuasion.

After the most dreaded job of threading (aah, finally it was over), Ammu started waxing and my son had been behind her to give away the wax strips so that he can do the waxing along with her.

He literally started waxing my hand imitating her, after some mins, she asked him frustratingly, “why you are so interested in all these tasks, threading, waxing, all these things are girlish! Tell me, are you a girl?? !!”

My son stopped for few seconds and answered, “No, I am a human!”

Ammu looked at me and asked, what did he say!

I turned towards him expecting, he would have mispronounced his own name, instead of Yuvin, he would have said, I am Yuvan.

I asked him, who are you?

He said, I am a Human!

Human body wala Human!

I and Ammu both were shocked!

Scene-2

I was having late dinner with my husband on a usual workday. My husband is generally back home around 9:30 pm after finishing his classes. Life of an entrepreneur is a tough one!

As we usually don’t have family meal days, whenever we have them, all family members also accompany us on our dining table even though they are done with their meals.

On this day too, my mother-in-law and my son were also sitting on dining table to accompany us. It was a usual chit chat, sharing highlights of our day with the family.

I said, Yuvin doesn’t speak much in the class, unless teacher ask him.

Yuvin- But why should I say when I am not asked?

I- Because that’s how the teacher knows that you know what is being taught in the class.

Yuvin- Then she must ask me if she really wants to know!

I- But it’s other way round, you must raise your hand when you know and that’s when teacher would pick the one kid to answer, but if you don’t raise your hand, then there’s less probability that the teacher would ask you to answer.

Yuvin- Aha! Okay, I will try! I didn’t know this!

My husband to Yuvin (jokingly)- Ha ha ha, kahan se ho tum! (Where do you belong to!)

Bangalore se to kya! (Are you from Bangalore?)

(He always says this jokingly to everyone after the person has said/done something stupid, kahan se ho tum, zaroor ……se hoge! He will leave the place where he belongs to, i.e., Ranchi!)

My Husband- Bolo, bolo, kahan se ho tum! Zaroor Bangalore se hoge! :D

Yuvin- No, I am not from Bangalore. I am from India!

For few seconds, we all were spellbound with his ready answer! We of course didn’t expect this as he has never seen or even heard of Chak de!

These 2 incidents made me think, how sensitive is my kid towards the differentiation or categorization of his identity and how clearly, he is resisting the same, may it be gender discrimination or region discrimination! Trust me, I have never taught him any of these things purposefully and his screen time is limited to only weekends 30 mins each day!

This shows that God has gifted all of us with an unbiased, pure and free mind, free from boundaries, free from definitions, free from limits! It’s only humans who have divided themselves based upon these categorizations. We all know that unity is the real strength, but do we really believe in this saying?

If strength lies in the unity, then why all of us are fighting with each other based upon gender, color, caste, language, region, religion, physical attributes, countries, cultures, financial status, size of the house, physical disability, countless other things! Even the same group is fighting within themselves based upon subcategories e.g., woman, marital status, working/stay at home, nuclear/joint family, way of kids’ upbringing, kids/no kids, kind of jobs they do, strict/yes mom, parenting styles, countless more!!

Gosh! Is there any end!

When would we understand that we all are different, totally different, no point of reference, so there’s no point of comparison! We all are unique!

Let’s accept this and appreciate each other for the individual each one is! This uniqueness only open so many doors and windows through which we can peep into different world and learn other ways of doing the same thing or handling similar situations. Instead of competing against each other, let’s understand and accept each other and evolve into a better version of ourselves each single day!
