The Sound Behind the Wall

The Sound Behind the Wall

2 mins
55

When Arjun rented his new one-room flat, he was just happy it was cheap. The landlord said it was “quiet,” and for the first night, it really was.

But on the second night, just before he was about to fall asleep, he heard this strange scratching sound from the wall right behind his bed. It wasn’t fast like a mouse — it was slow… almost like someone was dragging their nails along the wall.

He knocked on the wall.
The sound stopped.
A few seconds later, there were three knocks back.

He just stared at the wall for the rest of the night.

The next night, it happened again — scratching, then a soft whisper. He couldn’t understand the words, but it was coming from inside the wall.

On the fourth night, the whisper was clear.
“Arjun… let me out…”

He turned on his phone flashlight and looked closely at the wall. There was a thin crack going straight down, almost like it could open.

He slid his fingers into the crack and pulled. The wall slowly creaked open, revealing a narrow dark space.

Something moved in there.

A pale hand with long, dirty nails reached out toward him — and before he could move, the wall slammed shut.

The next day, Arjun was gone. The landlord said nobody had seen him leave, and the crack in the wall? It had disappeared completely.

But people who live there now say if you press your ear to that wall at night, you’ll still hear three knocks… and a voice asking your name.
