The Road

Life, they say is a journey full of mysteries and obstacles that one has to overcome. The dream one a little girl is to feel loved, needed, special and happy but not in the case of little Emma. Emma is the second born of her parents but never felt the love of her parents, sharing tears and being sad became her daily routine since childhood. Due to this, she tried to take an overdose on pain killer but couldn't do it and decided to run away from home because she couldn't take it anymore. While running away from the house she heard a voice asking her she was going but she couldn't answer and decided to go back home. At six she collapsed in class and the next thing she saw was being in a hospital bed. 

Emma suffers from a respiratory illness but never knew about that till that very day. She was told not to do a lot of things if not it will trigger the illness. From that day onwards Emma suffered a lot of bully from her colleagues at school. The school became a prison cell for her at that time but she couldn't open to anyone about it. 

She had this cousin called Josh who never gave up on her and always bring joy and happiness to her. He always encourages her and always make sure she feels special at all times. In her junior high, she became fearless and strong and always stand up to these bullies and made sure nobody suffers from their hands. Her dad encourages her to never give up, which she did. She never gave up on what she wanted to achieve. 

She later developed an interest in art to express her feelings. When drawing one could see the joy and love deep down her eyes. The happiness and peace she felt in her junior high were about to collapse but she never knew. Her bullies thought they have found a way to bring her down by spreading rumours among their colleagues that she's a lesbian but that didn't bring her down nor made her felt sad but that made her strong because she promised herself never to make what others think about her bring her down. <<The way people treat you is a statement about who they are as humans not about you because those who bully you know your potential which you are not aware of. >>

The senior high was another stage to deal with, the first day at school was cool until one senior approach her with the rules for first-year but that didn't move here because she no longer cares about the negative comments from others. Everyone who came across Emma tens to love her nature. She was kind, fun to be around and inspirational. Always taking the little chance she had during the break to learn arts. 

<Song and poems they say contain the emotions of the writer and deeper meaning.> She started to write poems and songs because that's another way she developed to express herself but that didn't last long. One unfaithful day, One cousin of hers called to deliver bad news which shattered her. 

Cousin: Hello

Emma: Hello

Cousin: Emma where's your dad

Emma: He's not in yet but he left his phone home

Cousin: When he comes to inform him that your cousin Josh had an accident and he's in the hospital 

( Tears rolling down her cheeks with a shaking voice she asks) 

Emma: Please how's he? 

Cousin: He's out of danger now 

(These words felt like a heavy load lifted from her shoulders) 

Emma: please can I talk to him

Cousin: Yes

Josh: Hello my little angel 

Emma: J what happen, how, when

Josh: calm down I'm fine 

Emma: Never scare me like this again, promise 

Josh: promise but guess what

Emma: You know I'm not good at guessing so just tell me 

Josh: I saw this beautiful pink phone and I know you will love it. So when I recover I will buy it for you. 

( Emma felt really sad but she didn't want Josh to know) 

Emma: Really 

Josh: yes

Emma: I will be waiting for it. 

Josh: sis, I want you to promise me something

Emma: OK, anything for you 

Josh: promise me you will never give up and you must always be happy no matter what. Never let anyone's negative comments affect you. 

Emma: I promise 

Josh: Tickling bomb 

(Emma laughing) 

Emma: here, I'm not a tickling bomb taller 

Josh: oohh so now I'm no longer your best bro but taller 

(both laughing said goodbyes and hung up the call) 

The next day, she called Josh's line to know how he was doing but Daniel picks up. 

Emma: hello taller 

Daniel: it's Daniel 

Emma: OK, bro where's Josh? 

Daniel: hmmm

Emma: please where is he, I have a surprise for him

Daniel: I was about to call uncles and you called. I'm really sorry 

( Heart racing, hands shaking and tears dripping) 

Emma: Please I hate joke so just tell me where Josh is. 

Daniel: I'm sorry but Josh is no more. He died this morning due to internal bleeding 

Drops the phone and falls down. Her hopes were shattered, the only brother who made her feel needed and happy is no more. She sheared uncontrollable tears till she falls asleep. She was about to write her final year exams and her parents where were really bothered because she was very close to her cousin Josh. So they decided to enrol her in the boarding school and prevented her from coming to the funeral. 

Emma died inside after the death of her cousin and promise herself not to get too close to anyone because her heart couldn't take the loss of a loved one. She didn't get the chance to say goodbye to her cousin but the only thing she did was to fulfil the promise she made to Josh in his hospital bed.

Josh was gone forever but she remains in the heart of Emma. He left his wife, twins and his beloved sister Emma behind .<<Our loved ones may be nailed in a coffin but their epitaph is nailed in our hearts. Death cannot kill love.>>

Emma graduated from senior high with flying colours but stopped drawing, writing poems and songs because it only brought pains. She started working in the supermarket. Her sense of humour attracted a lot of customers. She became the topic in the market among other salesgirls and boys because she never tends to get closer to any of them and is more focused on her work that she doesn't give them any attention. She closed the door to her heart to anyone. A year and a half later, she got enrolled in the University of her choice which brought another hope to her. In her second year at the University, she decided to draw, write stories and write poems again. She was really happy because when she shared her poem and art she got positive comments. She never gave up and fight with the opposite gender for positions. Due to her determination, all the guys tend to approach her with love interest but she just let all of them down.<< Hate is not the first enemy of love but fear is. It destroys the ability to trust.
