The Forbidden Cupboard

The Forbidden Cupboard

Some strange noise in the next room broke my sleep.

I lay awake in my bed for a while, until the noise grew unbearable.

Then I decided to find out the cause of the disturbance.

No sooner did I step into the next room, than the noise stopped.

As soon as I had decided to return to my bed, it resumed.

The noise came from a cupboard that had belonged to my late grandfather.

It was my grandfather’s last wish that the cupboard be kept locked and be opened by the person who was closest to him.

As he had not specified who this person was, my parents had chosen to keep the cupboard closed forever.

A while later I heard a shrill cry coming from within the closed cupboard.

Not being able to control my curiosity, I pulled the door open.

Strange light and noise in the next room broke my sleep.

I lay awake for a while until the noise grew unbearable.

Irritated, I left my bed and walked into the next room.

No sooner did I enter the room, than the noise stopped.

As I was about to return, it commenced again.

I understood that it was coming from the cupboard that belonged to my late grandfather.

In a matter of seconds, I found myself standing next to a heap of golden coins.

A golden pigeon came flying through an open window and perched on my shoulder.

A letter was tied to its feet. On opening the letter, I was startled.

The letter stated that my grandfather had chosen me as his heir.

He wanted me to use his wealth not to satisfy my greed but for some benefit of mankind.

As I promised to do so in my heart, I saw the bird fly away and darkness enveloped the room while the gold coins glittered.
