It was raining heavily as I dashed towards the deserted building, I was gasping for breath. I was saving myself from being drenched in the rain and this was the building nearest to me. It was an old, battered, four-story building and the paint was peeling off its walls. It looked like a scene out of a horror movie with the mass and filth creeping all over it. I was reluctant to go inside and explore the mystery. 'It is the only way to save myself from the rain.' I thought. I walked up the stairs and I do not know if it was real or only my imagination but I saw the movement and swish of a clock in one of the windows. I told myself that it is nothing and moved on.

As I entered the house, it was filled with cobwebs and dust and looked like as the mansion had not been touched for decades. Yet, there was a trail on the ground where it seemed that someone has just walked through, as there was no dust lingering there. I thought that some other unlucky person like me could have come to find shelter. I followed the trail, curious to meet the stranger. I descended up the stairs: 1st floor, 2nd floor, 3rd floor, and as I reached the 4th floor, I heard muffled class of a woman. I was startled and felt distinctly uneasy. 'Should I check who it is?' I thought, 'Of course I should. Maybe she needs help. After all, I'm not a coward!' Thinking this I reached for the door and opened. It made a creaking noise and I entered a small room with a window and a couch and a grandfather clock. A woman in a cloak was sitting on the couch crying with her face in her hands. 'Why are you crying, miss?' I asked her. She looked up 'Oh my!' were the first words that came out of my mouth.

She had not only no eyes, mouth, ears but also no features at all on her face. I ran for my life and I never ran before. The sight of her terrifying face was etched on my mind's eye. I ran down the stairs, four at a time and pushed the door open. As I dared look back for a glance at the house, I saw the women waving through the window. I was petrified. I ran through the rain and went to tell my mother. 'You were just hallucinating,' my mother said. 'No!' I protested and ran up to my room. I had nightmares and couldn't sleep for weeks. The faceless women kept waving at me in my dreams, as though daring me to go there yet again.
