The Triwizard Tournament

A bright, cool, June morning had started in the Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry, with a perspective notice for the three houses and students of Hogwarts. All the head teachers, namely Albus Dumbledore, Madam Maxime, and Professor Karakroff, had assembled in the school hall and announced the initiative of the start of a century old traditional tournament, that had been ceased for over a decade. According to the tradition, all the pupils of the three houses would place their name in the Goblet of Fire, an ancient, bewitched goblet, told to have a mind of its own, which would choose the most competent student, and the one who has done true and valiant deeds, in fact the one who is ready to take on the life threatening adventure.

Almost all of the students had put their names in the Goblet, hoping to win the Triwizard cup; but the three names that came out were Cedric Diggory from Gryffindor, Evelyn Clearwater from Ravenclaw, and Viktor Krum from Slytherin. The tournament would be held in July which would finalize the winner, and that which house is the mightiest and audacious to take on the adventure and defy death. The first task, and probably the last task for any of the three competitors, was to take down three menacing dragons, each one for one competitor. The species were Imperio Penelope, Crucio Goldsting and Avada Kedavra, which was the most powerful and short-tempered dragon ever to exist. The competitors had to take a golden egg from the dragon's nest, without using anything but only their wands. They could possibly use any hex or jinx or curse but only using their feeble sticks which yet contain immense power stored in them.

Cedric had known the task earlier and practiced the the Accio Jinx to fetch his Firebolt, the latest and the most fastest broomstick model. Cedric was in the Hogwarts school's Quidditch team. It was a game largely like football but instead was played on flying broomsticks. Evelyn had also practiced the same Jinx but to get her invisibility cloak, which she inherited from her father. Victor did not have an efficient plan except to use the shield hex and barefoot fetch the golden egg. The one who took the most less time to accomplish the task would win the Triwizard tournament and a generous prize money of a thousand galleons.

They first had to pick up models of dragons blindly and compete with them. Evelyn had got the model of Crucio Goldsting, a very substantial dragon with a golden venomous sting at its tail from where it gets its name. Victor had got the model of Imperio Penelope, which could fire jets of poisonous venom which could make him perish in a jiffy. Cedric had got the model of Avada Kedavra, the most substantial dragon, and the only person with a very good luck could defy Avada Kedavra, which was the very avatar of death.

The first one to go was Viktor Krum. The dragon first attached with venom which he tackled with the shield hex. Then he put the Accio Jinx on the golden egg, and just when it brushed through his fingers the tail of Imperio Penelope hit Victor. He then transfigured a rock on the stadium into a dog and tried to make the dragon go for it, but instead the beast shot out a generous amount of poison on him, and unfortunately he perished; with only an inch from winning the tournament.

Then was the chance of Evelyn Clearwater. As soon as she entered the stadium she shouted, "Accio cloak!", and her cloak landed right in her hands. She covered herself in the cloak and put the sleeping charm on Crucio and it went partially drowsy and blind. Evelyn placidly walked over and took the golden egg, but when Crucio witnessed it, he immediately shot the sting straight at her. She was hurt dreadfully in her legs. Professor Jones was called without further ado, as he was the school healer. Evelyn could save herself but not her legs. Evelyn had taken exactly 3 minutes and 47 seconds to accomplish the task. This meant that cedric had to fetch the egg before Evelyn's record.

With two competitors already playing between life and death, the pressure and tension of just hoping of being alive was building up in Cedric's mind. Krum had died and Evelyn lost her legs. As soon as Cedric entered the stadium, cedric summoned his Firebolt by the Accio jinx and began to ride on it. He just got pass Avada's open mouth which was erupting fires. He kept riveted and dived down profoundly and tried to catch the egg, but Avada's wing smacked him in his face. Just when it was about to attack, Cedric caught the golden egg and yelled, "Expelliarmus!" which hit Aveda right in his face. He had completed the round. He was happy to be alive without any abrasion.

By coincidence, Cedric had also taken exactly 3 minutes and 47 seconds to accomplish the task. It was an exact tie the thousand galleons were divided equally between Cedric and Evelyn. Gryffindor and Ravenclaw had won the Triwizard Tournament. Cedric and Evelyn held the Triwizard cup high up in their hands, which held their head teachers head up proudly.
