The Corporate Mother

The Corporate Mother

3 mins
36

The giggles of her child filled the room with an aura that cannot be described in words. The sparkling eyes gazing at his mom with so much delight, hope and love. While his mother too, lost withing the pupil of her child- trying to wander what dreams she would be able to fulfill for herself and him in the years to come.

And it was time, time to start working again in the corporate hustle. She had always enjoyed what she does- as she does it only if she likes it. A quite straight forward person, whose patience was at zero when in first job and now sack-full post her marriage and baby. Another transformation for a carefree, very career-oriented girl to a mother of an 11 months old in a consultant role.

She had got up at dawn to ensure things where at place for the child, calling nanny 5-6 times to ensure help is on time and instructions passed on smoothly.

All set for her work, she was deeply excited and anxious about what laid ahead of her. And at the same time wished well for her child, every second.

She buckled herself up, woke her baby son, cuddled as much and then hurriedly step down to leave for work.

Her heartbeat twice its usual pace as she sat in an auto-rickshaw towards her office. The office was a co-working space where one of her colleagues came out to welcome her with a big bright smile and set directions to the space. This itself had lessened her load by 30%, while she quickly checked in for her child with the nanny.

She then set herself straight to work, learning new aspects of the new role each day. With life giving new challenges everyday to master in. She got up early- did her chores, cooking food for the day and then off to work. At work she ensured she gave her 110% to slay in whatever she does.

Months passed by with personal challenges knocking in every day, it became difficult for her to be herself. She thought it would be better to leave work and be a homemaker yet again! But self-belief always beckoned her, that this just a phase and this too shall pass.

She held the flag high for herself, as she had been doing from her childhood. She was transparent in all her dealings with her clients, assured there was no loop intertwined or open. Ethics and integrity being in her forte, she was almost everyone’s favorite in few months’ time. Proving her worth at work in everything she did. All she wished and hoped for is to give her best, in all she did. After going back home, she took her child in her arms as she watched the little one now growing up to be a fine human.

A year had passed by and now it was time for the annual appraisals where professionally she would be weighted and acclaimed to be given rewards for what she had given to the company for the entire year. And there she was with an outstanding rating in the first year and awaiting promotion in the next.

It was triumph not only at work, but she also thanked God to help her sail through the juggle between roles in everyday life. It takes a lot, indeed a lot of patience, perseverance and prioritization to reach a stage of self-actualization and still be herself in the little way she can. She aspires to be the corporate lady who features in a business magazine somewhere someday before she breathes her last. Her aspirations and dream to become the no 1 in what she does is the only spark which keeps her alive, believing in herself and giving her little one the best of the world we live in- turning him into a human who will give back to the world and be the smile of millions of faces around him.
