Life is Bigger Than We Think!

She lay in her bed weeping. The tears were drying up due to the cold wind, which was blowing from a half-broken window of her room; which she did not bother to repair. The mink blanket which had managed to cover her from head to toe wasn’t enough to cover the thoughts which kept on hurting her mind. She coughed, wiped away her leaking nose, and again curled up to one side of the bed. Her eyes shut, and her mind tangled with innumerable thoughts.

What was she thinking, what was worrying her so much so that she seemed to care little about herself? She spent precisely another 30 mins just changing her positions, coughing, removing fringes of hair from her face and covering and uncovering herself out and in from the blanket. And then her phone began to ring, oh perhaps it was an alarm. She put it off, plugged the phone to the charger and went straight to the washroom.

She was suddenly behaving like a robot. She looked herself in the mirror, so pale and weary, her dark circles seemed to be the only noticeable thing in her face. Her arms looked weak, and legs were shivering, may be because of the weather or the cause could be something deep inside her. She then continued with her basic cleanups, brushed her teeth, put some water into the gas stove for boiling and took out her uniform. Prepared her breakfast, kept it ready on the table and went for bath. She then put lot of makeup, covered her dark circles. Hid her chapped lips under the brightest red shade of lipstick, did her hair, adjusted her uniform to fit in the best look, and then wore a fake smile to check on her other side of the life which she would have to show to the world.

She had her breakfast, quickly locked her house and left for work. The cab was scheduled for the pick-up, she swiftly got in and plugged in her earphones. She did not turn on any music and was least interested to do so either. But, just to stay aloof from any co-passengers conversation, she found this to be the effortless way for her coexistence in the cab. 40 mins the cab reached the aerodrome.

She hurriedly got down from the cab, adjusted her skirt. Took out her id card, displayed it around her neck and entered the security check-in of her flight which was scheduled to depart in another 40 mins. She was scheduled to fly to Vishakapatnam, however as some other attendant was on an emergency, she replaced her as the head cabin crew to serve the passengers of Boeing 737 to Derhadun. No sooner did she board, than she started to prepare for boarding for the passengers. Packing and unpacking the necessary essentials. Managing the crew and scheduling the necessary checks while the journey was on.

Her inner self and the worry peeped every now and then, sometimes thanking that she was occupied doing something, which at some point she love

d. While the niggling thoughts were cursing the self for again agreeing to fly to Dehradun. What was bothering her was perhaps this, the thought of being to the city which had stolen her smile, her reason to live. The city which had painted her dreams, her childhood; was lost few years back when her parents abandoned her for choosing and believing that the profession which she is now in will add to her grace and poise. They believed that it was not worth the family name they held. And this was what made her contemplate to the extent that she thought her life itself was futile. She had become a robot, only hoping someday some miracle would happen.

Amidst the instructions and duty to serve the passengers to ensure that they have a safe and happy journey, she juggled her thoughts. Another 20 mins and the flight would land to the destination.

She quickly checked if the seat belts for the passengers were fastened, some notorious kids were asked to sit and consider it as a last warning. While some were advised to hold on to their natures call. While the plane landed, she only wished that her next flight should have the least layover time possible. However, this time she had to wait for around 19 hours for her turn on the next flight.

Post few hours, she checked into the hotel assigned by the company. Ordered food, removed her make up and slipped into her comfortable pajamas.

She then switched on the television and started flipping to the channels. And what did she hear?? There had been a mishap in the flight to Vishakapatnam. The words displayed on the TV screen silenced her. They had to make an emergency landing into the sea, due to some big technical fault. All details were not available as the incident was reported just an hour back. And then calls started floating on her number from all the well-wishers, to see if she was alright. Not that everyone knew that it was to be her flight, but as it was the same Company she worked for people in general inquired. The incident had touched her, deeply. Not cause of the calls she received, but to make her believe that life is to live. And then there was a call, which she expected the least, it was her parents, who had called her after years. She only picked up the call and wept, and so did her parents. Asking, re assuring again and again if she was fine, and in good health.

After few minutes of only emotional outbreak, she answered that she was fine and was in her hometown. And that was it, her parents came down to see her, she spent the best evening of her life after innumerable moments of solitude, where she had sulked. Furthermore, they came to drop her at the airport for her next flight, wishing her a safe flight.

She was content and thanked every hour of her life. Indeed, life is bigger than what we think!
