The Book That Changed My Life
The Book That Changed My Life
I was sitting all alone in my study room. It was late at night and sleep was way away from me. Searching through my bookshelves I found a book which was titled ‘You Design your Life’ by Ammy Davis. This book had been my favorite since the first time I read it. I was in 12th grade and struggling to decide on my career. I was returning home from school when I stopped at a bookstore to buy a question bank. At the bookstore, I saw this book and I thought that I should give it a read. So, without any second thought, I bought the book. Later that night, after dinner I locked myself in the study room and started reading the book.
In her book, Ammy Davis has described the various attributes of teenage life and how adolescents lose track due to some mere distractions. She has well-described teenage psychology and the various consequences of teenage actions. Her simple language and convincing way of writing made me get lost in the book from the first chapter. She has well researched the matter before writing this book. I loved the book so much that I decided to finish it before going to sleep. The sun was about to rise when I finished the book. I totally forgot about the time while reading this book. I forgot to sleep that night and after finishing the book I started to feel sleepy. I had to miss school the following day to catch up on my sleep.
The book describes my life so well that I feel a sense of unusual attachment which I cannot put into words. But from that day, my vision of my life became clear. I didn’t have to struggle much to decide on my career orientation. I had a bad habit of procrastinating everything which I started to leave after reading this book. I started to give as much time as possible to my studies to achieve my goal. The book changed my perspective of looking at things and situations. I started to find positivity in everything and tried to see things differently.
I recall a quote from the book, “When you decide to succeed, half of your way is covered”.
This quote has greatly impacted my life. It is truly said. When I decided on my goal, the rest of the path started to get clear automatically. I started to get interested in my work. My work became easy. My parents were delighted that I had finally chosen what I want to become. I started to approach my goal with great enthusiasm and hope.
My hard work has now finally paid off and I am now an HR at a multinational company based in London. When I look back, I find my younger self a fool who was lost in teenage drama and ignored his future. But now I am grateful that I found this book in that book store which has changed my life for the better. This book was and will always be my favorite. And now I am going to read it again.
