The Air We Breathe

Ayan, a mountaineer by profession loved the thrills of the mountains. It brought him joy and he felt alive whenever he was in an expedition. Recently, due to a lockdown, he had been stuck in his house for months. He grew increasingly agitated and restless. He missed the mountains and fresh air. He started browsing and came across a company that sells fresh Himalayan air in tins. It was a major shock for him. He thought to himself, the air that I could breathe in so freely and had been enjoying for so long is being sold. I never knew the importance of it until now. He glanced through the window of his apartment and all he could see was a few lights and no stars. He missed watching the stars at night. That day he realized the way we humans have destroyed the atmosphere by industrialization. For someone to get fresh air he either has to travel far or has to buy a tin of fresh air. Who would have thought that humans will see this day? He started browsing through his old photos of the Himalayas and felt happy reliving those memories while anxiously waiting for the lockdown to end so that he can get back to work.
