Thank God For Coffee!

Thank God For Coffee!

All it took was one MST, one college dorm that lacked coffee and one girl who was stupid enough to pull an all-nighter on the night before the exam. In case you're wondering, the girl was yours truly.

I had to do well this time around for two reasons. One- I had to pull my GPA up to 9, lest I should become yet another unemployed engineer for everyone mock.

Two (also the one that mattered more)- I had to beat Abhi.

We attended (and sometimes bunked) the same classes and were competitive as heck. Last time around, he had scored more than I had and he simply wouldn't shut up about it! Not this time though. The next day, I was a bit late and as soon as I reached the hall, I realized that my seat was next to..you guessed it- Abhinav. I caught his eye as the examiner scolded me lightly for not being on time, and he flashed me a smile. It was then, in my sleep-deprived and almost beastly state that I noticed the slight trace of a dimple and the way in which his eyes shut halfway as he smiled. I realized I had been staring at him for a while, causing his right eyebrow to shoot up, making me blush and want to vaporise immediately.

Well into the exam, my pen stopped working and I flicked it- to no avail. Soon enough, I saw a different one placed on the edge of my table- it was Abhi's lucky pen and I turned to see him borrow another one for himself. I mouthed him a 'thank you', to which he winked. The rest of the paper went by in a blur, with only half of my attention for I kept on peeking at him in intervals.

That's when I realized-during an exam of all places-that I was in love.

I thought about how I always felt comfortable around him. Maybe his flirtatious texts that I brushed off were real. I completed the rest of the exam with an involuntary smile plastered across my deadbeat face. After the exam, he speculated that I had run out of coffee again and asked me out for some! There could not have been a better excuse. Even today, as we share coffee as a married couple, the memory of that day hides behind the smiles that dance on our lips.
