Pankhuri was sitting alone in the corridor of the temple. It was almost afternoon. Moments passed by but she was lost in her thoughts, reminiscing of her past.

She was wearing a mustard color saree which suited her image of "Sadhvi".A gentle breeze was blowing her loosely tied long hair. Her gleaming watery eyes were staring at the idol of Radha- Krishna and she was chanting her devotional hymns. This was her daily regime.

Although her life was full of turbulence yet she had faith in her prayers and this hope had sustained her till now.

She had lost her husband in a car accident two years back and to add to her dilemma her daughter had committed suicide for which she never could found a reason.

She was now left with her son; Uday, who was studying in a degree college and since he excelled in his studies he had been awarded scholarship, so Pankhuri was not burdened by his educational expenses.

He understood her mother economic situation so he used to give tuitions to gather some money for his other necessary expenses.

Some fixed deposits plus some savings of her own were the only major source of finance helping in her livelihood. Though a fixed monthly money order also came from her real brother(as in return of favor that she will not interfere in his smooth running life), only agitated her wound further.

She had a melodious voice and on being insisted by her friends she had started reciting "bhajans" in the temple. Everybody used to listen to her captivating voice engulfed in agony and she herself felt calm and satisfied with it. It helped her to heal her wounds which time and fate have imposed upon her.

She never realized how her soulful and melodious voice together with her simple looks caught the fancy of the young priest; Manas.

Manas was almost ten years younger than her, but this couldn't stop him from falling in love with her. He was an unmarried Brahmin who had devoted his life completely to the temple which belonged to him. He had left his family for some personal reasons and started living a life of solitude for eight months.

A week before"Basant Panchami" Manas couldn't stop himself. He sat beside her to her astonishment and addressed her."pankhuri Ji, please don't misunderstand, your voice lingers in my memory even when you leave. I know your melancholy. I still have no life partner or you can rather say that I was just waiting for you. I think we are soulfully connected. Whenever I see your tears I feel the pain inside me and your smile fills me with immense joy. If you accept me in your life I will be the luckiest person and I am assured that we will be happy together."

She was bewildered and raised her voice, "Do you know my age, we have a huge age difference and to add to it I have a grown-up son too.why you want to marry a widow?"

He countered"I will be glad to take his responsibility, true relations are not bound by age, love is eternal.and I think when two people are soulfully connected then age, caste and religion doesn't matter".

Although she was flattered by his answer she explained herself,

"I don't think society will accept our marriage."

Manas was ready for this one too,"yes maybe, but it will be opposed and disregarded only in the beginning.Society is made by us and for us. Somebody has to initiate to bring the change in the mindset of people. These superstitions and age-old practices are hindering our development and now it is crucial that we come forward and do the needful. Our happiness comes first . It is our life, just because they will not accept us, doesn't mean that we can't follow our dreams. Please think and respond.I will be waiting for your answer, however, I positively feel that it will be a yes."

Pankhuri was taken away with his confidence. She was perplexed,so many thoughts were coming and leaving her mind. She left in haste and couldn't slept that night.

Next morning she entered in the temple premises and sat in front of the deity.

"Lord, I surrender myself completely to you. Please show me the right path, guide me through".

Suddenly she heard the inner voice as if it was the Lord who was answering ,

"You both are meant to be together."

She was standing there with her offerings.God had cleared her confusion.

Pankhuri's eyes were caught by Manas. She was looking like a diva. Her sweet smile gave him his answer. He was jubilant. Without wasting a moment he stood by her side. They both were praying for their bright future."Love knows no limits".Soon they got married in a closed ceremony in the temple premises.

Everyone surrendered in front of their eternal, pure and unconditional love.
