My School Days

I was born in a village named Khetalpura which lies in Nalanda district of Bihar. My father was a businessman. I was enrolled in the village school. One day all of a sudden I was told by my father to sit in a car and I along with the son of the most affluent landlord of the village headed towards a destination that was not revealed. Ultimately we reached to a school with big premises. I was asked to appear in an admission test. I did well in all papers but failed terribly in English. The principal downgraded me one class lower from the class for which I was tested. It hurt my conscience.

Secondly when I was introduced in the class then at the first sight of mine all the classmates started laughing vigorously. Though a child I sensed that the rustic look of my face and the attires i.e a half pant, green loose shirt and plastic sandals triggered this ridicule. The teacher took me back without introducing. My classmates were sophisticated, attired in affluent school dress and a simple rustic persona became a matter of ridicule for them. I sobbed before my father. He consoled me and said to work hard to surpass the academic excellence of all. I proved this by working fanatically upon my academics.

And my hard work yielded satisfying results. For the three years till I was admitted in that school I did first in every exam and that too with highest in every subject be it Sanskrit or English. Apart from academics, the school days inculcated many virtues of human life. It taught me the real meaning of humanity.
