My First Outing In A Saree
My First Outing In A Saree
Every student looked forward to one event, ie ( the school farewell). It was a fantasy of every youngster. For year's we waited for this day to end our last year of school in style. The preparation for this grand occasion started months before the event.
I was eagerly waiting for the same. The farewell date was announced, and ethnic wear was the formal dress code. All my friends decided to wear a saree. Now I got into a fix because I am a sporty person, track pants and tees were my scene, saree with high heels never figured in my dreams.
I returned home with a sad puppy-like face. My sister stared at me and asked, "Who seized the fuse of the chatterbox?"
I told her, "I am sentenced to nine-yard punishment.
What?
Silly, I have to wear a saree for my farewell. I could not even handle a dupatta and saree. How? "
" Practice, my little sister," said Kavita.
She showed me how to drape a saree. It was no cakewalk for me. I tumbled down at least a hundred times before I could walk twenty steps in a saree. Finally, she polished me and made me walk gracefully in a saree with high heels. Mind it; maths seemed an easier target than the sweat I poured into wearing and walking with high heels in a saree.
After she completed my grooming, she rummaged for the perfect saree in my mother's wardrobe. She selected a plain black chiffon saree in my mother's wardrobe. She selected a plain black chiffon saree with a designer blouse, black metallic bangles and dangling earrings. She made me look like a swan from an athletic duckling.
When I glanced in the mirror, I was surprised by my transformation. I was dazzling in my black chiffon saree, just like a heroine in a Yash Raj Movie. The minute I stepped into my school auditorium, I stole the limelight from my friends. I received huge compliments from my fellow students and teachers. My first outing in a saree made me the star of the day. The sweat I poured out to carry the saree was worth all the effort, all thanks to my dear sister.
