Montage Of Commitment
Montage Of Commitment
The seasons of the country are losing their importance. Forgetting their own traits they are embracing others. The untimely rain of winter was washing away all the tiredness of the town. The sparrows were shivering under the shade pipul leaves. The street dog was taking its daily nap at the sunshade of Khanna's house. It's a grey afternoon indeed. Disha wearing a feather jacket took that blue umbrella and stepped out from her house. Auntie noticed her but didn't utter a word. It was nothing new for Disha, she was habituated with it. Actually, Disha believed that it was because the members of her family loved her too much. So, it was quite natural for them to get angry with Disha's decision. Maybe they're not actually angry, they were just hurt. They believed that there was no point to live on the skeleton of a dead relationship. Disha should move on. Disha was smart and educated, she had a prestigious job--- so why should she spend her life like this? Aunt Suman wanted Disha to marry her nephew Karan who was an engineer in Singapore. Karan even promised to settle a job for Disha there. Karan was indeed a nice guy, Disha liked him. But she couldn't marry him. After that Karan incident, the cold war between Disha and her family had increased so far.
The untimely rain was washing away the shore of River Shilai. It was foggy everywhere. Neel was sitting on the watching tower on the shore. It was bitterly cold outside but the man had no warm clothes on him. He was shivering. Neel was now a person who had nothing to own, he had nothing to lose, nothing to gain. He had no meaning to life. So why should he bother about this trivial winter? One mistake and the entire life had shattered. The raindrops were wetting his face. With the falling drops, Neel was trying to capture the galloped time when he was too a happy man when he too had a life of worth. Neel was sunk in his own thoughts when he felt a cold touch on his shoulder. He was startled by the sudden touch and he looked back. More surprise was waiting for him.
"Disha… you?" asked the man in his astonishing voice. Disha did not reply directly, "I knew it. I knew that I could find you here."
"How?"
"Because it was your all-time favorite place when you want to hide from yourself."
Neel looked at Disha's eyes for a moment, then lowered his face. He sighed but didn't say anything.
"Why didn't you contact me after returning from the rehabilitation center?" asked Disha in a sulky voice. She was trying to hide a cry beneath it. Neel sighed again and mumbled, "contact! With this face! How could I?"
"Why not?"
"How could I appear in front of you with this cheater's face which lost its worth long ago! How could I communicate with you with this self which was used to take drugs being jealous of your success! How could I!!!"
"Wow wonderful…!" said Disha sarcastically.
"But why are you here today? Didn't you marry till now?" there was a touch of wonder in his voice.
Disha looked at his eyes for a moment, Disha said in a witty voice, "I gave the answer years ago, but unfortunately you couldn't believe me. Mr. Neel Dutta, I never forget to keep my promise. I never know to step out of my commitment."
"Why Disha! Why! I am not worthy enough, I was never…"
"Stop it. I was waiting for so long, I can't wait anymore mister…"
Before Neel could say anything, his lips were locked. After a long passage of time, Neel could feel the rosy touch, he could smell his favorite odor, which he thought to have been lost from his life forever.
The town was covered with a scarf of rain. The concrete pillar was full of the odor of the lost days. The untimely rain of winter was vibrantly decorating the montage of a true commitment.
