Long ago in ancient Hawaii people used to tell stories to explain and respect the power of nature. Once there lived a boy named Maui in a small village of Hawaii. During summer many of his friends went for a vacation he was getting bored at home as his parents were both busy with work. He decided to build a very huge kite that would fly high. His mother gave him a large piece of cloth , Maui cut bamboo for the sticks and teared the flesh of the branches of Alona tree for the rope he spent 2 hours to make his kite and after he finished he thought to himself that his kite was a work of art. He wanted a special wind to fly his "Special" Kite. He decided to go to the Keeper of Winds to get a special wind. On the way Many people helped him carry his kite and the people of the village stopped there work and went to see. The keeper of winds was an old woman he controlled all the winds and kept them in a gourd.

When Maui reached her house he said

"O Keeper of Winds please give me, Maui the gentle wind of Ipu Iki ". The woman knew that the winds of Ipu Iki will gently play with the boy. She sang her song and opened the lid of the gourd. Maui said the chants of Ipu Iki and a gentle breeze came from the gourd which tugged the kite from Maui's hands and made it fly above the sea like a bird. How lovely it looked! After a few minutes The woman said" That's all for today on must respect the winds then the winds will respect one. "after a few moments of silence the chants worked and the wind of Ipu Iki came back to the gourd and the woman closed the lid.

At home Maui wondered how far could his kite go more to check its ability he needed the great winds of Ipu Nui.

The next day he went to the woman and asked permission for Ipu nui. The woman scolded him but Maui snatched the gourd and Ipu Nui came. It snached the kite and went near the ships. A huge storm occurred and the fields were destroyed . Somehow the woman controlled the wind and the storm was over. The people started calling Maui names. And no one in the village communicated with his family. Soon he had nothing to do.

So one day he made a small kite and tied it with a rock and started studying its movements. Soon he knew how to judge the weather. One day he saw a bunch of men going to work in the field he told them that today it will rain. They didn't believe but after an hour it rained! The people started learning the technique and called him "Teacher of the weather".
