It had been nearly 5000 years since they had met last time. He had always been busy whenever they aligned. But today, she was waiting, eagerly. The firm reason stood behind her, that almost 200 years ago, he had promised that he will meet her whenever they wound align next time. And that was today.

She waited and waited. An hour, 4 hours, 12, 24. Finally, she saw him. A rock, darkened under the bright radiation of Sun. After 30 minutes or so, they were aligned. “Venus,” she began the conversation. “It has been 50 years! What were you doing? Where were you all this time?” “I’m sorry, Earth. I was just curious. About learning all that’s out there. You know, beyond this System of the Nine Planets. Do you know much there is? We can’t even imagine it…” “No Venus, you listen to me,” Earth cut him off, mid-sentence. “There are problems worse than that. I.. I’m dying, Venus!” She started sobbing uncontrollably. Venus tried consoling her. “Stop. Stop crying. No, no, stop now. I can’t come over there, lest we collide. Stop those floods and tell me what happened.” “Listen carefully, Venus…

“Millions of years ago they appeared. They improved their survival skills with such innovative ideas, that had never existed before. I, who was still under the trauma of Chicxulub…” “You mean, that big asteroid who killed your Dinosaurs?” “Yes, that’s the one. I was still depressed about their extinction. So I was happy that these Primates were taking over. I finally had a Dominant Lifeform on me! But after evolution, they grew ambitious. They started wars. They started destroying me. And now, they are so advanced, I am going to die because of them.” She helplessly started crying again. “And all my other Children will also suffer.”

Venus was shocked. When they had last aligned, Earth seemed pretty chill. But now… Humans had destroyed most of the Planet at an alarming rate. If they continued doing it, then this might as well be the last time Venus met Earth…

“Stop crying. Everything will be fine. It’s just warring, right?” “No, not just wars. They ruin my features, they ruin Nature on me, all that just for fun!” Shocked although Venus was, he did his best to hide his emotions. “Look. Maybe it doesn’t have to end this way. Maybe, only the Humans will pay. And your other Children won’t go extinct. They will learn their lesson.” “Let them all burn! Let them die! Let them know how they treat their mother!” came the booming voice of Sun.

“No, Father! We resolve this peacefully!” Venus shouted back. “Earth, look at me. Everything will be fine. It always does in the end. Those Humans will learn their lesson. Remember how you felt when Chicxulub hit you? Desperate, right? But remember. Our Creator, who the Humans call God, is all-seeing. It will always come to your need when you most need It.” And then with a last, desperate attempt to make her feel better, added “Did you know? What I’ve seen during my leave? There are places, stars and Celestials out there, much much bigger than our Father? Even bigger than our entire System! Faraway galaxies with possibilities of Life! Tell me, are those humans any more fascinating than that?”

For a split second, Venus rotated uncomfortably; he thought Earth would shout at him for being selfish (female planets usually have an unpredictable temper). But she just laughed. “You are right. I was just.. thinking too much I guess. And after all, the new generation of humans is learning. They are understanding their past mistakes.” “Hey, do you know, they walked on me. They actually WALKED on me, mom!” Luna, Earth’s moon interrupted her. “See?” said Venus, picking up a chance. “I told you! Never lose faith. The Creator is watching. It’s never gonna give you up, or let you down.” “Thanks, Venus, always good to have a fellow planet to talk to. Mars is usually busy these days.” “Well, never feel alone. Even if we can’t see each other, please know that I’m always here.” And then he drifted away, for another 200 years.
