In my dream of I saw a lot of Champa or Magnolia flowers and had vividly experienced their intoxicating fragrance. At least on 5 different occasions these flowers were the subject of my dreams. It is a pleasant dream and made me feel happy and relaxed. Once I saw a tree full of golden yellow champa flowers. Another time there was a bowl full of fresh flowers, spreading their strong fragrance all around.

Champa flowers are common to Vishakhapatnam, our native place. The trees grow in wild on the hills of Simhachalam, which is the abode of Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. These flowers are very popular and bloom almost throughout the year, particularly in summers. During our annual visit to our native place when we were young, soon after setting the foot into the city, we would rush to the market and bring home these flowers and our mothers colluded with us in this activity. All women would adore them in their hair and feel good.

These were my mother’s favorite flowers also and she had tried to grow this plant several times in our garden in Hyderabad and was not successful. I often had dreamt of these flowers at different stages of my life. Recently we had two of these trees growing in our garden and they bloomed profusely. I don’t dream of them anymore.

In my analysis, these flowers in my dream are a reminder of my happy and secure childhood. Our inability to grow the plants at home would be the trigger to see them in the dreams. A lot of memories are associated with these flowers and the dreams could be a reminder of these.

There are several theories about the dreams, their purpose and their interpretations. Indeed, it is a very complicated subject. Meir H Kryger, M.D., Professor of Medicine, Yale school of medicine on his website writes,” Tell us about your dreams you have had and what do you think they mean, if anything.” I have described my recurrent dream, which I clearly remember and to me they remind me of my childhood memories and reinforce some of my relationships.
