Yummy, slurp, tasty, delicious are the adjectives you think of when you think of mangoes in the Summer season in India. From the king of mangoes - Rathnagiri Alphanso to Raspuri to Malgoa to Badami and many, many more varieties of mango mark a delicious season during summers.


I like mangos in any form, biting into the delicious pulp directly, milkshake, mango juice, mango ice-cream, mango sambar, mango raita, mango pickle from the raw variety and other dishes. Each region of India has its own variety of mangoes and their corresponding dishes made from it.


My father has been a lover of mangoes and every summer he got a lot of varieties of mangoes from the local store. We used to wait for this basket to come home and start to cut it into slices and have it as a dessert after dinner and sometimes even lunch. This made the hot summers and our holidays as kids more memorable.


As I grew up, I got interested in cooking and went about checking recipes for making mango dishes - some as old as mangoes itself and some newer ones. This was a lot of fun as it made me have my favorite fruit in a different way and also show off my culinary skills.


Always the thought of mangoes will bring me sweet memories and make me feel happy. Good old fruit the Mango.
