DAUGHTER OF TWO HOUSES

In the house where we lived on rent, the neighbour couple had a daughter and a son. Due to some problem, we had no child of our own . we were anxious to see the little children. In the same line, our relationship with the neighbour couple was better to best.

In the meantime, the neighbour lady gave birth another girl and after 21 days she said, "keep the baby in your house, this is for yours".

We were happy without saying anything. The baby stayed at our house for the whole time during day and at night in her own house.

The relationship between the two houses grew stronger.

The girl is now five years old. Since we did not have our own children even after five years of marriage,

the intimacy continued with the baby. The name of the girl was also chosen by us and she is our own daughter named as Sukanya.

The girl-daughter Sukanya will now go to school. Her name was also written in the school register with our names as parents. Instead of daughter's own parents, our names mentioned in the application form as her parents.

The relationship became even more stronger.

Even , when we used to visit our parental village , we were happy to take her and introduced as our own daughter. The family members also accepted and blessed her with a thank to God.

If someone asks about the father of that girl, she proudly says that she is having two fathers and two mothers. Again, if any body asks the baby citing our names as her parents, Sukanya replies in a childish manner. . "I live in two houses, eat and play, so I am a child of two houses"

Time moved forward. We wished the change of place as there was no transfer even though we completed fifteen years at the same place. We wished to change ourselves. We decided to live in the nearby town which was six kilo meter from that place of stay. The parents of Sukanya knew

our plans and proposal. They agreed for our change of place and cooperated to some extent.

Every household articles packed and delivered to the new place. We were about to go by scooter in the evening.

When we asked the parents of Sukanya, They refused to offer Sukanya to go further with us.

We requested with folding hands again and again. Sukanya was crying in loud. All our happiness washed away by the edge of Sukanya's tears.

As we did not have children of our own, we put Sukanya on our chest and we were known as parents of

Sukanya in public and in school also. The relationship of many years washed away in the stream of tears . We determined not to cry outwardly but our hearts were drowned in tears. The daughter of two houses will no longer live in our heart whereas she will available only in her own house.

For a few days, we went to Sukanya's school secretly and

Visited her. Sukanya used to cry in loud voice. The teachers of the school gathered and came to know the fact. They had no knowledge of Sukanya's original parents.

The parents of Sukanya knew about our visits to school. One day , while visiting and talking with Sukanya, the father of Sukanya resisted and took her away. That scene is still ahead and alive in our hearts.

Now, we have children of our own. But the feelings of love and affection for Sukanya are still alive in our hearts . . . . . . . .
