Crackers Of Holi

He was the topper of the class but a very shy boy too. But he couldn't resist looking at her. It has happened since his classmates have rumoured about them as a couple. He was shocked to hear that. Does a girl like him? It was a "Never felt before" feeling for him. Now whenever he confronted her, his heart started beating heavily and he immediately turned himself out of her way. But she looked to be unaware of all of this. After all, it was just a rumour. But after few time she also started sensing the change in him. But she decided not to let him know about it.

On the other hand, his life was changed completely. He sometimes felt that he should avoid all this and concentrate on his studies alone. But there was someone in him who was continuously thinking of her and he couldn't stop him. She was a simple but beautiful girl and was always in the second position in the class after him. He was her biggest competition but she was the biggest cause of his sleepless nights now. 

But they never spoke to each other. Never ever. Although non-verbal communications have happened many times. Helping her picking a dropped pen, passing on a book, opening the gate of class and then leave from there without speaking. This silent one-sided Love was growing with time. Yet he knew his boundaries and never dared to cross them. He was such a kind of guy who even never came out of his study room forget roaming outside in the streets. This kind of behaviour is obviously expected from a class topper. 

Yet one day on the occasion of Holi he did something unexpected. He didn't know how it happened but he asked two of these friends to go to the colony where she was residing. They started teasing him "Why do you want to go there? Is it for her?". But before they could continue the teasing he interrupted "No! That's not the case. There are other classmates also residing there. Today is Holi and we will celebrate with them. Why I will go for her. There is nothing between us. Better you people stop spreading rumours."

Sensing his internal wish and the fact that he rarely comes out of his world they easily agreed. And they started walking towards that colony which was not very far. The interesting fact was that this sincere Mama's boy has not even informed his mother about going to that colony. This was the first dangerous independent act of his life. Yet he made it. Don't know from where he got the power to cross the first boundary. But the speed of his steps and beats of the heart were increasing with the distance reducing.

"Look there she is!" His friend exclaimed when they entered the colony's main gate. She was standing with her few female friends outside the house of a classmate's house. Now his hands started shivering. Is it right what I am doing? Should we go back from here? All these thoughts started rushing towards him. Suddenly he stopped. "I don't think any of our friends are here. Let's go back" this time he decided. "But why? Let's go to our friend's house. Maybe he is in the house" his friend added. 

"Which house you are talking about?" He asked. "That one, outside of which our female classmates are standing," his friend said. "Ok...are you sure!" "Yes definitely". And they started moving towards that house. Outside that house, she was also watching all this and sensed his arrival. With a shy smile, she rushed into the house with her female friends. 

The boys were standing outside of that house now. And his condition was worsening with time. Now his legs started shivering. They rang the doorbell. The mother of their classmate came outside. After greeting them she asked them to come inside. He went blank as soon as he entered the home. It seemed like his eyes were only searching for one face. He didn't notice any furniture, any room or any people. At once he recognised her in a black suit sitting on a chair. They looked at each other. Time stopped for a moment. Yet it felt like hours were passing on in few seconds.

To not gain any doubt, he immediately put the colours in his hands and applied them to the faces of everyone. And at the end, he turned towards her and gently applied the colours on her cheeks. Both of them smiled. And in a split second, they turned their eyes. Just one second of pure intense gaze of love. And that was sufficient for him. Probably for her also. They immediately departed from the house after greeting everyone. On the way the friends started teasing him again "Finally the mission was successful" But he remained quiet with a big smile on his face. Many crackers of Holi were bursting inside his heart.
