“Now remember.” He told her. “One spoonful is enough.”

“You’re sure that he’ll die?” She replied. “How about two spoons?”

He grinned. “It’s very potent, baby!” He said. “Just mix one spoon in the soup and let him drink it.”

“And then I’ll be free!” She sighed. “Free of this marriage, this domesticity. Free to escape.” She looked at him. “You have the tickets ready?”

“Tickets, visa, everything.” He said. “You play your part to perfection, baby. Before anyone realizes, we’ll be out of the country.”

They checked out of the hotel room, and she went back to her house. For the last time.

Three hours later, he stepped inside the airport booth and called her landline. No mobile to mobile. No paper trail.

The landline kept on ringing. There was no response. He became more and more frantic.

There was urgent tapping on the booth. He looked outside to see a young, anxious looking woman.

He had been in the booth for quite some time now. Reluctantly, he stepped out and she went in.

She too faced a similar problem.

The next half an hour, as the departure time came close, both of them entered and exited the booth at repeated intervals, each of them dialling a landline and not getting through.

Finally, the last and final call was announced and they both had to leave.

They missed the headlines in the next day’s newspaper.

A couple found dead. Poison in the man’s soup. Poison in the woman’s milk…
