“Man! I’m real jealous of you!” Mike said.
“Whoa! Hey! I’ve earned this leave, you know! 8 months without a break. The wife and kids are going bonkers, man! I don’t want an alimony payment…” Sullivan responded back.
Mike slapped Sullivan on the back. The Chief of Police was busy today. But after the whole thing was done and dusted, Sullivan was off, to a nice long holiday. 21 days. They would be starting with Vegas. Then the beaches, the Florida swamps, the works. The wife had it all planned out. Crime could be handled by others, for some time now.
“You’re looking real frazzled” Mike said, sympathetically. “Why don’t you take a break?”
“Now? Are you out of your goddamned mind?” Sullivan almost yelled.
“Whoa! Ok! Ok! Ok, man! You’ve been working your ass off for the whole night, you know, on the arrangements. You look beat, that’s all!”
“I know. Appreciate it, Mike, but I got this last one, here. Nothing’s gonna stop me now, y’know!”
Static crackled.
“They’re approaching, I guess!” Sullivan muttered. “Soon he’ll do his visit and fly back and I can say goodbye and off we go!”
They both grinned.
Static crackled again.
“The motorcade is entering Dealey Plaza!” the voice crackled. “I repeat! The motorcade is entering Dealey Plaza!. POTUS is waving, guys!”
It was mid-day. On November 22, 1963…..
