Charlie-My buddy
Charlie-My buddy
He foamed with rage, stared wildly about, the hot air jelled in front of him, and out of it transpired a man of most unconventional appearance. His eyes were icy-blue, but were perhaps remarkably cold.
"My friends call me 'Charles', you can call me Charlie.", said the man making his glance fall on John.
John looked a little overwhelmed by this new found friendship. While a little nervousness wasn't uncommon; he was one of those who suffered from more extreme and enervating anxiety.
As days passed by, Charlie became John's sunshine, making it seem like good weather and as if there was nothing to worry about.
John was an introverted, shy kid who was fascinated by the world of literature. He used to read novels and storybooks a lot and he was working on his own fictional novel- "The Darkness". His friends did not share his interests, hence he was lonely and unfortunate in his friendships.
He considered Charlie to be one of a kind. He was so accustomed to having Charles around that he used to frantically proclaim him as his 'Best Buddy', yet people were not that appreciative of his presence(Charles') and didn't seem to like him.
On a fine day, both of them were hanging out together; John was confronted by some bullies who started to make a mockery out of him.
"Just go from here, I'm spending some quality time with my buddy, please don't bother us!", said John.
"Oh really! Call him, we want to see this guy, what's his name?, Wait, it doesn't matter...afterall he's a loser just like you! (In a condescending tone), said the bullies.
"Don't!", John roared with rage.
"What are you going to do, cry a river, or hide as your coward buddy!".
This resulted in the outbreak of fisticuffs and their fierce fighting continued. The four guys seemed to overpower John and they started to strangle him. John wanted to break free of their hold, but all he could do was to scream. After a while, in the act of saving Charlie and himself, he thrashed a guy's head into the wall so hard that it knocked him unconscious. They tried to bring him round but he didn't respond.
Suddenly, a local security guard entered the scene and immediately called the cops and the emergency services.
Fast forward to the day, when John had served his sentence and was a free man again. A long struggle with imprisonment and rehabilitation had finally come to an end. The name 'Charlie' was almost erased from his memory. As he was walking out of his cell, he saw in the dark, the same icy-blue eyes which he had seen before. That day, he got scared of those eyes.
With a deep voice, the man asked- "Don't you recognize me, John ?!". John was shell-shocked as he had no recollection of such an acquaintance.
"We have been friends for a while now, don't you remember?", the man nagged.
"Who are you sir ?", John questioned.
The man revealed his face and with a wicked look on his countenance, he said, "Well, you should remember your friend Charlie; afterall you were the only one who had appreciated me and my work!
Hello John, this is Charles from The Darkness".
