Cat Person

It had been six months since she married and shifted her dwelling with her in laws and Dhara never left a minute missing her little inmates of her family . Dhara lived a normal life watching stray kittens and feeding them with milk. A few cats to pet and a peaceful life with her mother. Things turned upside down after her mother's demise. She had no one to console. Later she took the only cat she had with her father and sister and shifted to her new home. She compensated her loneliness by watching YouTube videos on rescues. She slowly changed herself into someone she never thought she would be. One day she saved two orphaned puppies and one of the puppies died. She contacted her friends to get contacts of known rescuers. That day she decided to become one. Eventually she rescued two more dogs, gave one to the professor who had his own farm. Then she confined her rescue service into foster, and she started fostering disabled cats ans cats with spine injuries whose life span were for few months only. She took immense care of each disabled cats and kittens and made a proper funeral after they passed away. As days went by, she had to shift to the other place where she had to be in verbal feud with her neighbors for the intrusion of her cats. She kept the house locked and took care of them. She denied many wedding requests thinking about the cats and her father. Later she met the one who liked her service yet there he has a problem that his parents were so regressive minded and then might not accept after marriage. He did not want to leave her as he loved her unconditionally and he married her. Dhara found herself alienated and felt handicapped when she couldn't go out for rescue nor could she foster any disabled cats. She fed two strays at her in laws house that eventually ended up with conflicts. She felt all alone and depressed . She asked her husband for a separate shelter since her father was unable to take care of the cats and kittens she left at her paternal home. He asked her to wait and promised that he would build a shelter someday. Just behind the kitchen there were two windows with mosquito nets nailed from outside. The other part of the window was a bushy region with unused well and the place belonged to the corporation. The place remained closed. Next to that patch of land was the house where two kittens wanted to have food yet the inmates of the house hardly paid heed to them. She stared at those kittens and wanted to help them in some way. The only barrier was the mosquito net. She was afraid that her husband's parents would complain of she volunteered to feed them with food by going to the place. One fine day she was doing the dishes and the dishwasher liquid bottle was closed with a lid. She didn't want to open the bottle for cleaning liquid every time so she burned the knife and inserted into the plastic lid of the bottle. That action was normal, yet it appeared again and again in her mind . One day she got calls of the disabled kitten and she responded that she would contact the concerned people after discussing with her husband . By the time the contact between her mother-in-law and herself was bleak and they hardly talk with each other. She asked her husband and to her surprise the husband accepted her request that turned her cry out of happiness. The so called barren Dhara who was labeled impotent too soon cried and thanked her husband. She couldn't get the disabled kitten because the owners were very close to the kitten. And again the same loneliness that killed her. The next day the mosquito net was slightly torn just above the window pane and it flashed back to Dhara slowly inserting the knife for the kittens to be fed. The incident ended up with the sudden piercing of the mosquito net with a small burnt knife.
