….It was just another day at sea on board M.V. Oriana sailing from Southampton to the Caribbean. The passengers were all ready to have lunch in the Peninsular restaurant since it was chilly, rainy, and windy and the sun was not to be seen on the horizon…the weather started getting worse.

It was about one in the afternoon in the Ships clock, when we heard an announcement from the 4- striper at the Bridge that in the next few minutes we would be crossing M.V.Aurora (another ship of P&O… & sister ship of Oriana)…and she would be visible on the starboard side of the Ship….like everyone I rushed to the starboard side trying to squeeze in a place just to get a glimpse of her and wave hand to our fellow crew members on board Aurora. She was on her way to Southampton, a few hundred meters away from us. A 69,153-tonnage Ship looked like a paper boat in the middle of the Ocean. Struggling its way and fighting against the rough waves of the angry ocean, sailing away from us, floating as if the engine were turned off and the Captain had given up …it looked like she would go where the wind would want her to go….rolling and pitching from one side to the other….swinging like a free swing. Helplessly I wondered and felt sad for the Crew and the passengers on board Aurora…suddenly I realized that somebody is watching us from Aurora too and would be feeling the same for me (and Oriana), somebody there must be saying that Oriana is struggling its way in this English Channel, but here on board we were fine and everything was operating smoothly. The Old man was happy and so were the Crew….

……………..I stepped back from the waving bunch of humans and thought for a while, whatever I see is just different from what the fact is !! The reality is far different from what we see !! I saw it struggling for a smooth sail while the fact is she was fighting against all the odds in the ocean. Our life must be just the way a Ship cruises its way and cuts through the waves in bad times and good times, propelling under the water at full throttle and looking calm and simple above the sea…..smartly cruising toward the horizon….life is tough and gets tougher in every step that you climb, but we also have ways to handle it on the same step, but we don’t realize that it lies under out feet…we ignore and just walk away.
