What is global warming?

We, humans, are very intelligent. We think with our brain to discover many things. We erudite our knowledge to invent mechanical and complex technological types of equipment and machines. But, we are so stubborn and inattentive that we are polluting our surroundings and our environment with our civilization’s waste product and it is a greenhouse gas: Carbon-dioxide. Because of our civilization’s carelessness, this greenhouse gas is getting pumped into our earth’s atmosphere in large quantities each year, and this warms up the earth.

What is a greenhouse gas?

These gases are harmful to the earth, because these gases trap the incoming heat from the incandescent sun and thus, as a result, raise the temperature of our home planet. This causes global warming. Some examples of greenhouse gases are methane, carbon dioxide, etc. So we should not emit any of these gases in large amounts into the atmosphere of the earth. Or else, it would result in the melting of the polar regions, creating high sea levels, killer heat waves, warmer oceans which are a boon to hurricanes and cyclones, etc.

What is Carbon dioxide?

Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas as mentioned above. It traps the heat from the incoming energy of the magnificent sun. It is made up of 1 carbon molecule and 2 oxygen molecules. This is the gas that is warming up our earth right now. But what about its manufacturer? It is us: Humans. Carbon dioxide is an invisible greenhouse gas. It is the main waste product of our civilization. This gas transformed our neighboring planet: Venus into a kind of hell. The extreme amounts of Carbon dioxide in its atmosphere traps the small amount of sunlight and heat that trickles in. Its clouds of sulfuric acid block the sunlight from reaching the surface. That makes Venus be cooler than the earth, but the Carbon dioxide traps the small amount of heat that trickles in from escaping outside. Over time, the planet’s surface temperature started to rocket and it reached broiling of 480 degrees celsius. Venus is currently hot as a broiling oven, enough to melt lead. According to us, no life can withstand such broiling temperatures.

So, if we humans want to endure for much more time and if we want to protect our home planet, we must stop dumping all of that carbon dioxide into the atmosphere of the earth right now. If we keep doing business as usual, then all of the species of the earth will continue to be in peril and the inhabitants of the earth will perish soon.

The reason for global warming:

When we come to the reason for global warming, we obviously deserve the name of the global warmer of the earth. We need sources of energy to live. For that humankind is burning coal, fossil fuels, natural gas, and oil which produce too much carbon dioxide (co2). So, we need to stop polluting the environment. Even CNG can be a replacement for petrol and diesel in the modes of transport. There are even electric cars. Electricity is a perfect epitome of energy. So there is no need to get energy from only burning coal, oil, and gas. That is just our mindset...

The replacement of coal, oil, and gas:

Well, it is obvious that you guys might think, “Ok, but first tell what is the replacement of coal, oil, and gas?” Well, the answer might be just millions of miles above you. It is our mighty, magnificent, and splendid sun. The sun is a great big ball of hydrogen and helium. The sun is constantly fusing hydrogen into helium at its core. The sun is a nuclear fusion reactor. If we harness the power of the incandescent sun, then it would be enough to run our whole civilization forever. So, first, we need to learn to harness the power of the sun through solar panels. Well, we need to do it as fast as we could.. Now also, it is not too late. If we act cleverly, there is still a chance for us to escape from this artificial disaster. Humankind should act wisely now...

More about the sun...

The sun is the closest star to earth. It is 148.61 million kilometers from the earth. As mentioned earlier, the sun is a huge ball of hydrogen gas and helium gas. The sun fuses hydrogen into helium. The sun is so hot that all of its atoms are always in their gaseous state. The sun is so hot because its own gravity is crushing and squeezing its atoms together. So the deeper we go to the sun, the higher the pressure and the greater the temperature. In the core of the sun, the atoms are moving so fast that when they collide, they fuse. The atoms’ nuclei touch. So this is what happens inside the sun. The surface of the sun is a lukewarm 5500 degrees celsius. Want to know why I am saying lukewarm? There are other stars in our galaxy which have a far greater temperature. Some stars dwarf the sun because of their enormous mass and size. Our sun is a yellow dwarf star.

Nature’s beauty:

See you around your garden. Feel the beauty of nature. Don”t you also feel that you have to protect nature? See those greenish plants. Even scientists are struggling to create artificial Photosynthesis inside labs. See the dazzling beauty and colors of the blooming flowers! Are not they beautiful? See purple of the lilacs, the pink of lotuses, the crimson of roses, the golden yellow of marigolds, etc. See those trees standing majestically at the center of the garden! See the animal kingdom of nature! All of the herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores and their nature! Those tigers, lions, monkeys, dogs, cats, elephants, giraffes, etc. What about birds? Crow, pigeon, bulbul, scarlet minivet, parrot, toucan, vulture, eagle, duck, swan, peacock, sparrow, swallow, ostrich, kiwi, emu, etc. So many types of animals and plants! Without animals and plants, we cannot survive. But what are we contributing to nature? Mother Nature gives us life, but we are not contributing anything to her. On the contrary, we are just polluting the environment with our waste products... So, we need to stop this as soon as possible to protect mother nature..

Some contributions to global warming:

Air conditioners:

Air conditioners are a major cause of global warming. But you may ask, “But what effect do air conditioners have on our environment?” But they do. Air conditioners cool the room through refrigerants (gases). There are different kinds of refrigerants. For example, Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) etc.. Some examples of refrigerants are R32, R22, R410A, etc. So, when they use these gases, they release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming. So, we should try to avoid using air conditioners, but I can understand: Nowadays, people cannot sleep without air conditioners, but we should try to avoid air conditioners.

Refrigerators:

Refrigerators are also a contribution to global warming. Like air conditioners, refrigerators also use refrigerants and fridges emit greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, and they trap the heat from the sun. These greenhouse gases poke holes in the ozone layer of the earth, which protects us from the deadly ultraviolet rays from the sun.. But we need refrigerators for our food to be microbe-free.. So, what can we do? I do not have the solution, but we can reduce the uses of other greenhouse gases-emitting things, because they pose a threat to us. If we keep doing business as usual, then we would not endure for atleast a millenium... So, now, we are in danger..

Factories and industries:

Factories and industries are undoubtedly a great reason for global warming. These emit too much of carbodioxide into the atmosphere, causing global warming. But we can harness the power of the sun, we can avoid burning fossil fuels, coal, oil and gas which are a major cause of global warming. Fact: As per of 2014, the volcanoes of earth were emitting 500 million tons of volcanic carbondioxide (co2) into the atmosphere each year. Now, you might think that the raised levels of carbondioxide (co2) in the atmosphere is because of the volcanoes of the earth and not because of humans, but you are absolutely wrong.. The 500 million tons of carbondioxide (co2) emitted into the atmosphere each year is not even 2% of the 30 billion tons of carbondioxide that restless humans are pumping out into our atmosphere each year!!! And I am highlighting, every year!!! Now do you understand the reality? This fact shows how stubborn are humans and it also strictly says that humans should correct themselves. So, solar energy plays a key role in an unpolluted earth.

Different types of pollution:

There are different types of pollution: Totally there are five types of pollution: 1, land pollution, 2, water pollution, 3,noise pollution, 4, air pollution, 5, space pollution.

Effect of plastics:

Plastic is not related to global warming, but it is closely and directly related with the pollution of land and water. We can avoid plastic bags and instead of them, we can use paper and jute bags. This avoids pollution. The main dangerous thing about plastic is that it takes too much of time for it to decompose. Until then, plastic is piled in a single place, creating land pollution.

Plastics in ocean:

Do you know that plastic is more deadly in the seas and oceans than on land? The toxic chemicals in the plastic leak out into the oceans when it is in the oceans. This is extremely dangerous. Each year, about 1 lakh marine creatures die by getting entangled in plastic. Because of the leakage of the toxic chemicals of plastic into water, there are 400 areas of the oceans where oxygen levels are so low that no creature can develop in these places. Scientists have declared these regions as dead zones. Turtles cannot distinguish between plastic bags and jellyfish.. It could take even a thousand years for a plastic bag to break up, but they never disappear. When fishermen drop their fishing nets which are made with plastic into the sea by mistake, many creatures get entangled in the nets and thus, as a result, they lose their lives. In 2008, the Marine Research Foundation conducted a voyage. In this travel, they captured 672 fish in which 35% of them had swallowed plastic pieces. If you make a chain with all of the plastics in the ocean, it would go around the world 4200 times. All of these statements talk about the extreme dangers of plastics in water. So, we must strictly avoid plastic. We should get adhered on jute and paper bags..

Pollution:

Land pollution:

I have already mentioned about the 5 types of pollutions somewhere above in this article. Now, we are going to see about these pollutions detaily. Now, we will have a gaze on the topic, land pollution. We are doing a terrible mistake when we go out. We throw the hplastics and our waste on the roads instead of putting them in the garbage dustbin. Especially those middle class people, (including me) who throw all of the garbage produced in their home onto the roads in order to keep their own houses clean.. Now, this causes land pollution. Even the garbage will be dumped on the garbage dumping site, by those garbage trucks.. So, what is the danger? The main dangers of the land pollution are: They create epidemics. They are also a breeding place for mosquitoes. This causes many diseases such as Dengue, Malaria, Chikangunya etc. So, we should keep our surroundings and our environment clean and should throw garbage only in dustbins...

Water pollution:

We have already discussed about water pollution somewhere above. All of these facts are telling to us that we should develop a strong disinclination and intense loathing towards plastic.. Many of you should have been hearing about the water pollution in Mumbai during the celebration of Vinayaka Chathurthi.. In this grand celebration, idols of lord Ganesha are made of artificial things. When these idols get dissolved in the sea, the chemicals mix in the sea water, polluting. And often, the idols will not get dissolved completely. It actually produces a grief when you see those half – dissolved idols in the sand.. But, Dattadri Kothur sir has found a brilliant idea to solve this problem: He is the founder of Tree Ganesha. This is an eco – friendly idol of lord Ganesha.. It is made of clay and mud. The people mould the materials into the shape of the god. In a few days, the idol will become solid. Then, they paint eco – friendly paint on the idol. But now, there is a twist in the story: They fill the idol with fertilizers ( natural) and seeds! Wonder why? Just wait. To dissolve the idol, there is no need to take it to the seaside. You can take a sacred idol to the terrace and pour water over it.. Then the idol would dissolve completely, but the natural fertilizers and seeds will remain. In a few days, a plant will sprout from that spot! Wonderful, isn’t it? So, there are a few people in this world who care for nature, unlike us. Because of the cataclysmic water pollution done by us, many sea creatures die each year. So, readers, I request and beg to you, please do not use plastic bags from tomorrow. You can use jute bags, paper bags, or cloth bags. This helps in reducing pollution...

Air pollution:

All of us know about air pollution. I have already mentioned it before. Burning of fossil fuels, natural gas, coal, oil, factories, industries, vehicles etc. all are a major cause of air pollution:

Fire crackers:

Fire crackers are a major cause of air pollution. Everyday, many people burst fire crackers as a jubilant celebration of marriages and ceremonies, but it is harmful to nature. Especially in the festival of Diwali, when people burst billions of crackers, thousands of tons of fresh carbondioxide id entering into the atmosphere, improving the hazard of global warming. So we must avoid fire crackers in celebrations, ceremonies and in festivals. ( Including me, because the last Diwali, I did not buy fire crackers because of COVID – 19 and felt very bad.)

Petrol and diesel:

Petrol and diesel are a major cause of air pollution. When we run vehicles which are fuelled by petrol or diesel, it emits smoke and carbondioxide into the earth”s atmosphere, causing air pollution. ( Actually, no one wore mask during the extreme air pollution of our civilization, but now, they are being forced to wear a mask by COVID – 19. )

The replacement for petrol and diesel:

There are many replacements for petrol and diesel.. For example, CNG is a perfect replacement. Vehicles which run on CNG give less smoke. And there are also electric cars and bicycles. Electricity poses no danger of air pollution.

Noise pollution:

I cannot write so much on noise pollution. Just a loud noise by speakers, horns of vehicles etc. But, here, I should agree that noise pollution is an inevitable one. It is caused by the loud and unpleasant noise of the speakers on the roads and because of the horns of vehicles. But vehicles are a lifeline nowadays... So, I do not have much to tell about noise pollution.

Space pollution:

Now, mankind is not satisfied of polluting the earth alone, and now, he has started to pollute space. But, we possibly could not know much about the colossal cosmos if we do not have satellites.. We send many spacecrafts and satellites from earth to make them venture into the deep cosmic ocean.. All of the satellites have a lifespan. When a satellite above earth dies, it becomes a useless junk in space.. Imagine this happening to hundreds of satellites over the world! After these machines face the end of their useful life, they either stray out into space by leaving the earth, or the earth’s gravity would capture them so tightly that they crash land on earth. They become very tenacious and they plunge inwards towards the surface of the earth, where they crash land and cause severe damage. .Actually, these happen very rarely.. So now, we have seen about all of the types of pollutions.

Trees:

Another terrible and horrible mistake mankind does is to cut trees, but why? Well, you might give the answer as wood, but there are many dried and useless trees in the world! One can cut these useless trees, instead of cutting greenish trees! You know what the plants do? They absorb all of that carbondioxide in the earth’s atmosphere for their food. They get water both from us, and from the rain. All of you might know about the chemical formula of precious water: ( H20: 2 Hydrogen molecules + 1 Oxygen molecule) The plants split the hydrogen from the water molecules and they release the oxygen as a waste product. They combine the hydrogen with carbondioxide to make sugar, which stores sunlight. We cannot do all these artificially, and even if we do, it would be very difficult. So, they absorb the co2 in the atmosphere, but we are pumping co2 into the earth’s atmosphere at such a high speed and rate that plants cannot absorb all of that co2 as fast as we pump it. On the other hand, we are quickly cutting down trees. So, we must stop doing this. Plants can survive without humans, but humans cannot survive without plants. So, should stop cutting trees in large number each day! At this rate, just in a short time, we will destroy all of the forests of earth, which will eventually lead to a famished famine. We are destabilizing the earth’s climate...

Solar energy:

I have already mentioned about this before. Instead of coal, oil and gas, we can use solar energy as our lifeline. Even today, there are many solar energy collecting machines and solar panels in our planet. They can supply enormous amounts of energy to the planet. A very few people in this world use windmills as their power source.. We can even get pure energy from the wind and the waves, because these are driven by the sun. If we consume all of the energy which falls on the earth from the sun for one hour, then that amount of energy is enough to run our civilization for a year! Think how much that would be! So we should harness the power of the sun properly...

Our earth and our solar system:

Oh! See this wonderful blue planet! I like the earth very much. It provides shelter to thousands of species.. It’s atmosphere is 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and the remaining 1% has traces of other gases. Probably in our lifetime, humans might go to other planets in our milky way galaxy and make them as their habitat. But even though we will go to the other planets of our solar system and beyond, we must never forget earth. If we do, then we are ungrateful. No matter how many planets beyond our solar system provide us shelter, our earth, our star and our solar system fascinated us for hundreds of years. So we should never forget our solar system...

Side effects of global warming:

The oceans, the seas, the air and the land are all getting warmer. Global warming contributes to heat waves. If we do not stop doing like this, then the number of people killed each year by heat waves will constantly and steadily increase. And we all know that water freezes the temperature drops below 0 degree celsius. But now, global warming has increased the temperature, causing the melting of the arctic and antartic regions, which results in higher sea levels. We are indeed tipping our home planet’s climate into the dangerous and perilous path. Some of the carbondioxide that we pump out in the atmosphere ends up in the ocean. Now, the oceans are getting warmer.. Which are remarkably boons to hurricanes. As the air over the oceans warm up, that warm air rises up leaving the cool air behind. Because warm air is lighter than cool air. But as it rises up, the volume and the pressure of the air decreases. This is the baby form of a hurricane. So, we should turn our concentration on these side effects and we should stop producing carbondioxide.

The Coronavirus disease – 2019:

All of us know about the scary and frightening novel corona virus disease – 2019. But I think about this COVID – 19 in a totally different way. It is nature”s anger on humans. We have been polluting the earth for many decades. This is our fault. And we are experiencing the punishment of that fault. We snatch the freedom from the animals and we (humankind) keep them in cages. Now, COVID – 19 got victory in capturing us and we are currently trapped in our homes. Our sweet homes became our cages and we started to develop an extreme reluctance against our home itself! So, this is the punishment that we deserve because of our carelessness.. Hey, mankind! Stop polluting the earth. This earth is our only home in the colossal cosmos. At this rate, it would not take much to destabilize the climate. Correct yourself! Feel the beautiful place that the earth has given to you. I request to you, please use solar energy to power your civilization!!!

 “An unpolluted earth" Is important.
