A Story Of Wonderland!
A Story Of Wonderland!
I am dead.
Both from inside and outside.
I can't take it anymore.
It's so suffocating to live like this. No one to listen to, no one to understand, no one to talk to. It bothers me if everyone goes through the same bullshit.
I looked at my father sitting in front of me. The breakfast sitting in front of him now was entirely cold. The newspaper in his hand was already read by him two to three times today.
Mom came bringing in more meals expecting her husband to eat or at least respond. He has been acting this way since I was born. Mom never gave me the justification.
"I will go," I said to mom who constantly told me to take a holiday to school.
"No need for holidays. Academy is a crucial phase of her life. Let her go" Dad said in a commanding language making mom wince.
I clenched my fist and ran out of the house.
I looked back at my birth home. From the outside, it looked so ordinary. The monotonous garden was laden with black dahlia, black rose, and white Daisies complementing the off-white fence across the house and never used swing which was full of spider webs. The black and white House reflects and absorbs the sun's rays at the same time. I looked up. The sun was not there.
Huh?
What the heck?
A red moon?
I jerked my way toward the bus stop. But the bus never came. An eerie hush filled the streets. I turned my way back to my house. I rang the bell but nobody opened it.
I took out my house keys and twisted the lock. Click. The sound filled the whole house.
"Mom. Mom. Are you there?" I called out.
Terror rushed within me. Father was not spotted too. What if he did something to her? What if she was...? Bad thoughts started forming in my head and I muffled them. I couldn't lose my sanity. I rushed to my room and a sudden puff encircled me and made me lose consciousness. Luckily, my body slammed on the bed and not on the floor.
"Skylar. Skylarrr" A familiar voice called out to me. My eyes opened and adapted to the bright sunlight that illuminated my room. I pushed aside my duvet and yawned. A dream?
"Skylar come for breakfast" mom called.
"Comin-" my voice stuck in my throat when my eyes checked up on the cupboard. It was half open. And someone was staring at me.
Mom.
I stumbled back and fell on the floor.
"What happened? Are you ok?" Mom said from below.
"Don't listen to her. I have been hearing the noise for a month now" the woman in the cupboard cried.
What heck is going on?
"Honey, are you having some trouble? Are you talking to yourself again" the mom from below shrieked. I was confused and on the verge of tears. I pinched myself but the situation didn't alter. There were two identical women. Two moms.
The door opened and inside came the mom who was shouting from below. The cupboard door too opened disclosing another mom.
They looked at each other and didn't say anything. Their eyes are completely devoid of life. Their heads snapped at me at lightning speed.
"I am your mom" both of them repeated.
"Choose me" they said and slowly advanced towards me.
I didn't know which one was real and which one was a...monster. For the first time, I needed my...dad. I rushed towards the window and hopped out of it and fell on the thick bed of black roses. The thorns planted themselves in my flesh, and blood oozed out.
My tears were restrained within my body as my adrenaline was in its highest form. I ran and ran and ran, across the lanes, shops, and trees. Only to again end up in front of my house. How?
Tsk. Tsk.
"Pity" a man strode in front of me, hands in his pockets, and stopped a meter away. How could I not recognize him in this dark, it was none other than my father.
"My poor child", he said with a mocking face.
"What the hell is happening, dad?" I cried, while still keeping my eyes on the window of my house. But the 'moms' were nowhere to be seen.
He stepped closer inch by inch. The space was closing between us and I was not able to move as if someone clasped my legs and bound them to the earth.
He snickered. His eyes were barren of any esprit.
"Dad, huh? Has a nice click to it, right? DaUgHtEr" he magnified.
My lips were numb and my throat was parched.
"I will kill you" the threshold instinct of mine spat these words.
"Where else would sunflower turn to, if not where the sunlight is?" Father said with every venom in his words.
A radiant heat came from inside me, burning every body part of mine and muting my eyes slowing into utter darkness.
"Father, pleaseee, help" I pleaded. I can't take it anymore. His eyes softened. "Ok child, listen to me carefully-"
He continued and I listened to him carefully with blood still oozing from my ears.
"After this, there is no turning back, you take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in bed to believe whatever you want; you take the red pill, you stay in wonderland, and I show you how deep the realm goes," he said taking out two pills from his pockets.
Wasn't it obvious I would choose the blue pill? Wasn't it that I wanted a normal life?
But then why did I choose the red pill?
Why did my father smirk when I chose it?
What was this wonderland he was talking about?
I closed my eyes and darkness engulfed me. Though the pain whipped off, the silence filled the voids within my body.
I was dead.
For now.
