A Scary Surprise

After a tiring day at work, I fell asleep on the sofa in my office attire. I was so lethargic that I couldn't even change my clothes. In the middle of the night, my eyes opened waking up in an eerie chamber that had a pungent smell like ammonia. It took me a while to gain utter consciousness, and my first glance went onto a huge painting stretching from the floor to the ceiling. When I read the details beneath the painting it read: Winston Churchill - 1874-1965. besides the painting on a circle-top table lay an ancient brass candle stand covered with wax which was then melting and now hardened. I stepped forward when I heard a ceramic plate break. For a second it gave me a peaceful realization of not being alone, but then my mind went otherwise making the scenario gloomy and worse.

Strangely the night seemed to be endless, and the owls could be heard hooting, and the wind blowing could be felt making everything even more lifeless than it seemed. In the corner was a vase that looked brightly colored but was not clear enough to see the patterns carved on it. in the vase were artificial orchids some blue some purple, carefully placed in contrast with the interior color. The room door was ajar as it opened into a long hallway stretching inevitably.

A long red carpet was spread symmetrically across the corridor which further connected a few other rooms like mine. I switched on the lights and the room was brightened not by tube light but by a huge chandelier light in the center. I don't see any soul wandering by which puts me into a panic situation and I now wonder if I am kidnaped or is this a dream. I walk to the center to get an idea about the whole situation when confetti pops from above right on me and my friends come jingling the birthday song. All this was a part of my birthday surprise and my friends brought me to London to celebrate my birthday all the way from Cambridge.
