"A New Beginning: College, Friendship, and Unexpec
"So What If I Didn’t Get Into IIT? I Have a Private College—I'll Work Hard!"
With this thought, I took admission to a private college. A new environment, a new college, and a new journey were about to begin. But my first impression of the college wasn’t great.
As soon as I entered through the main gate, I heard a guy’s voice—
"Bro, this college ended the moment it started!"
All my hopes came crashing down at that moment. But since I had already taken admission, I had to stay and study here. My parents helped me settle my luggage in the hostel room and left. My roommate hadn’t arrived yet, so I had to sleep alone that night.
In the evening, while I was strolling in the garden, I saw the same guy again. I went up to him and started a conversation. He was also a new student, but from a different branch. Soon, we became friends. In the hostel, students from all branches stayed together, so it didn’t really matter. By the end of the night, our friend circle had expanded. We had a lot of fun and eventually went to sleep. I ended up sleeping in my new friend’s room since his roommate hadn’t arrived either.
Days passed, and we started adjusting to this new environment. I had heard that college life changes people—some become reckless, others get into relationships. But I wanted to stay away from all that. Still, I wasn’t sure what fate had planned for me.
The First Exam and My First Glimpse of Her
Soon, we had our first mid-term exam, and the results were announced. My scores were decent—not too good, not too bad. But then, our tutor made an announcement—
"This time, someone has secured the highest marks in the entire college."
We were all curious to know who the topper was. The tutor pointed toward a girl and said—
"This is our class topper!"
That was the first time I saw her. Fair complexion, big expressive eyes, and a calm demeanor. The class applauded, and I also felt happy that someone from our section had topped.
That night, as I lay in bed, a thought crossed my mind—
"I’m a good student too. Then why did my scores fall short?"
But that was just the beginning…
The First Chat and a Growing Attachment
A few days later, I fell sick and couldn’t attend college. I needed notes, and for some reason, her name was the first that popped into my mind.
Gathering courage, I sent her a message for the first time—
"Hi, I couldn’t attend class today. Could you please send me the notes?"
A few minutes later, she replied—
"Yes, no problem. I’ll send them. Get well soon!"
And just like that, our conversations began. Initially, we only talked about studies. Then it expanded to college life, hobbies, and eventually, casual fun chats.
I didn’t even realize when my mornings started with her messages and my nights ended waiting for them. Every time my phone rang, I hoped it was her. I kept telling myself—
"No, no, it’s just about studies. I’m not falling for her!"
But the truth was—
"Her words had become a part of my everyday life,
Just hearing her name made my heartbeat change its rhythm."
The Mess Hall Encounter and a Shocking Ignorance
One day, I decided that since we had talked so much online, it was time to have a conversation in person.
During lunchtime, I saw her in the mess hall. Summoning all my courage, I called out—
"Hey, listen...!"
She looked at me for a moment… then turned away and walked past me without saying a word.
"She didn’t even meet my gaze,
As if my presence caused no stir in her heart."
It felt like my mind had turned into a poetry generator at that moment.
I couldn’t understand—what went wrong? We were good friends, so why did she ignore me?
The Night Call and an Unexpected Reality Check
That night, I decided to call her and ask. Maybe she was busy, or maybe she hadn’t heard me.
I gathered my courage and dialed her number. The phone rang… my heart started racing… and finally, she picked up.
"What happened?" Her voice had a strange tone.
I asked, "Hey, I called you in the mess, but you just walked away. Did I do something wrong?"
And then—BOOM! A verbal explosion.
She angrily said, "You call out to me anywhere, anytime! Do you even realize my parents were sitting there? What if they had heard you?"
My brain went into panic mode—"Oh, crap! I never even considered that!"
She scolded me a bit more and then hung up in frustration.
As I lay in bed that night, all I could think was—
"My heart warned me to take things slow,
But my mind ignored it, and now, look at the mess I’ve made!"
Before drifting to sleep, I whispered one last thought to myself—
"I was a novice in the streets of love,
Fell head over heels at first sight,
And now that she’s hit me with reality,
My heart sighs—'Dude, you were totally trapped!'"
(To be continued… maybe! 😜)
