A.I: BIRTH OF THREAT TO HUMANITY

Hey, guys my name is Michael Addams. Just like everyone else you can also call me, Mike. I am an orphan. I am the world’s best robot designer and an A.I developer. I run a company named, ‘Mike’s Robotics Tech’. I always get very complicated contracts like no one else had first. But I have my assistant with me, who helps me in finishing every contract without any chaos

. His name is Charlie Gonzalez. Everybody called him Charles. He was not like an assistant to me but as a best friend, like a brother. I used to be a family man. I was married to a very gorgeous woman, Rose Addams. She was the most perfect women in the world. Everyone says this about her wife but, she really was the perfect one. I had two children, my son Herb (age-14) and my daughter Darla (age-10). I used to spend a lot of time with my family but after I started to get contracts from big companies, I did not have a lot of time left that I could spend with them and because of this I could not attend birthday parties or any party, I could not took them out in holidays like every father should do. One day my wife argued with me regarding this, which ended up in divorce and because I could not spend much time with my family I lost custody of both my children. Yes it was my fault because I gave my work more importance than my family. But I keep sending them gifts because I still love them. This is the reason why I do not have friends also. Charles is all I’ve got as a family and as a friend. We lived in New South Wales (Australia).

Like always I got one more contract. This one was very difficult and complicated, like next generation. But no one can tell what is going to happen in the future. I mean, who knows what’s coming ahead, in future. No one would have imagined that this was going to happen. So let me tell you what happened. As we were going to enter the twenty-second century our needs were also increasing. As we have seen in past that in the future we will robots to work for us. I think this was the time we needed high definition robots to work for us. Now you understand how complicated and difficult this contract was. Let’s move ahead.

So the UN (United Nation) decided that we are in need for robots. They had an assembly and all the nations in that assembly agreed to this. So they wanted me to make a robot like this, who could take our places. A full human-like robot. To run a robot I need to develop an A.I. So first I started developing an A.I. An A.I that could think like a man, walk like a man, talk like a man and everything a man can do. You know, if we develop an A.I like a human brain, it could do everything faster than a man. The speed of communication of neurons in our brain is 400 km/h and speed of communication in computers is around that of speed of light which is almost 300,000 m/s. Due to a limited space in our skull, our brain also has a limited space for everything.

Neurons are developed to a limit. Our mind can think up to a limit, develop anything up to a limit and every other thing. But if we talk about a human brain like A.I it can go all over internet means it have unlimited space for everything. In easy words, an A.I will be more powerful and more intelligent than human brain. So if an A.I like this is built, it can come up with 2 cases. Case no.1- It can take control over humanity and wipe them out I think, because this happened every time in history. The strong one takes over the weak one. Like we humans did and one day every ruler comes to an end or is ruled by another powerful ruler. Like dinosaurs.

They once ruled over the world. Eventually, they came to an end. Now we, humans rule over the world. But in our case we won’t come to an end. We will be ruled by another powerful ruler. If not A.I, maybe we will be ruled by aliens. Case no.2- They can help us evolve. They will help us in everything. That’s why they are made. But I don’t think they’ll go with this case because they will have their own thinking. So, they’ll probably think taking over the world. So, if they go with Case-1 then we can do nothing to save humanity because they will be so intelligent that they can destroy us in seconds, they are very fast. The best example is, if you remember in 2017, two A.I got out of control and many more incidences like this. Let’s wait and see what future holds.

So I started making a robot like this. I worked for nights and days and finally in 7 months I made a robot like we needed. We made it a ‘he’ and I was the one to voice over him. So I named him after my son’s name, Herb. It stands for, ‘Humanoid Experimental Robot’. You know many times, great engineers and scientists, including me, have warned the world about A.I. At times, even many have said that A.I is the biggest threat to humanity. They said, ‘A.I could end mankind’ or ‘A.I will be the last invention of our world’ and many more. Keeping in mind that A.I could go out of control, I made it carefully with thinking of helping humans and I don’t think that it will plan to destroy us. But still it will have its own mind. For safety I made a kill code that could destroy the A.I. But I don’t think we will ever need this because I am very confident about my work. It was the time for his test and it passed all the tests except for the feeling test, you know if we are making a human like robot so the most important thing is it should have feelings without feelings a human is no human. It was the time for me to party as I finished my hardest contract.

After two days I was going to take the robot to present it in the UN assembly. This is the time when I check all the tests for the last time and this time it passed every single one of them even the feeling ones. I was very nervous when I presented it to them. I entered the Assembly hall. I said, “Hello gentlemen and women present here. This robot standing beside me is the new phase of mankind.” Mr. Scott Higgins, the president of UN Assembly, said, “Hi Mike. Glad to see you here. Let’s start it without any further ado. What’s its name?” I answered, “Sir it’s a, ‘he’ and his name is H.E.R.B., Herb. It stands for ‘Humanoid Experimental Robot’.” He asked, “Why is he called so?” I replied, “He is called so because he is an experiment for robots we are in need for. If you will pass him then we will make robots like him. It is an experiment to present to you.” He said, “In what kind Herb like robots help us in?” I said, “Herb like robots will help us in business. "He asked again, “What can he do?” I smiled and replied, “Anything a human can, but faster than us.” He questioned, “Well if he can do everything a human can, what about feelings.

Does he have feelings too?” I said, “Yes sir.” Then he said, “Alright, let’s give him a try.” I said, “Why not. I’ll switch him on.” I switched him on and the president started to talk. He said, “Hi Herb.” Herb said, “Hello Mr. Scott Higgins and everyone present here. My name is Herb, it stands for ‘Humanoid Experimental Robot’.” He said, “Do you know who made you and why?” Herb said, “I am an experimental robot to help humans. I am made by Michael Addams, I‘ll consider him my father.” He said, “Well, what will you help us in?” Herb said, “Well if you pass me, other robots like me will be made for different jobs. I am a robot to help in business. We will help you in everything. We will be in police, many people die saving their countries but from now on no one will die because we will be in military forces, in business and everything else. There will be no drivers, full automatic cars, trains, airplanes etc.

These automatic systems will be much better than we have now. We won’t stop you from going anywhere for your physical health. In simple words, we will help you evolve. We will make your lifestyle very-very comfortable and easier. According to my calculation, in around next five years there will be robots all over the world. It will be a new phase for humankind.” He said, “What if you fall in the hands of bad people? You know, like terrorist.” Herb replied, “All robots will be under one A.I which will be at Headquarters of UN Security Council.

The coding of that A.I is developed to help humans. So, if anyone tries to decode that an alert will be sent to that A.I.” He said, “Alright Mike, how will you show the feeling test?” I said, “Well, he calls me his father, so he will feel bad if anything happens to me. For that I want you to hit me. Just a little slap. Come on.” Then he slapped me and Herb said, “Why did you hit my father? Did he do anything to you?” He said, “Sorry Herb?” Herb said, “Don’t apologize to me, apologize to him.” I said, “Herb it is fine.” Then Mr. Scott said, “Alright Mike we have seen enough. Now you may shut him off.” I shut it off. He asked, “What about the warning given to us by great scientists and engineers including you, about A.I threat? How will you take care of that?” I said, “Keeping this in mind I have made a kill code that will destroy the A.I” After the presentation there was a round of applause for me. I was very happy. I asked, “So did you pass it?” He replied, “You really impressed us, but let us discuss. We will send you a letter tomorrow.” I said, “I hope it’s a yes. Good Night.” I left for home.

Then they started to discuss about benefits and harm of robots. Almost everyone nation said that robots are good for they will help us. Let’s pass it. But few nations like India, Australia, Japan and Israel said that he was saying, " 'Robots all over the world’. Can this be a warning? What about the warning given by great engineers and scientists including Mike himself." Mr. Scott said, “Well, you listened what Herb said. He said that we are developed to help humans and they don’t want us to die that’s why they will be in military. They care about us. Also, Mike told us that he had made a kill code for this to stop that. I trust this man.” Australia said, “What if it’s all made up and he can’t stop that?” Mr. Scott said, “Well nothing like this will happen. Now let’s focus on what we need now. So I suppose we should pass the robots. All in favor with me say, ‘AYE’. Those who not, say ‘NO’.”

All four countries who were opposing this, also said yes. But they were not satisfied. So all the nations said ‘AYE’. Next morning I woke up in an excitement. You know it’s a big day for me. I rushed to check my mail box and I was very excited. It was written, ‘Good Morning Michael Addams, yesterday you showed us something that astonished us. You made something exactly we were in need for. We have a good news for you. We have given you a project, ‘Beginning of New Era’. We have passed your robot and as you said it was an experiment, we want you to make a final copy of the robot. We want you to make at least 100,000 copies of them.

You must be thinking why so less. Well you said they would do anything faster than human. So, two robots for big companies and one for small companies. But it’s up to them weather to buy them or not. The one who did not got sold out will be kept under supervision in UNSC (United Nation Security Council) headquarters. When they will be made we want you to make robots for police then military and so on. We will provide you with money, materials and everything else you need.’ I was very excited. It was time to party. Well now Herb is passed and it was an experiment so it won’t be used. He called me his father as I was his creator. I decided I would treat him as my own son. Now I have a brother, Charles and a son, Herb. My family is half complete. Anyway, I organized a party in my company. It was great. I invited Mr. Scott Higgins and he came. It was such a proud moment for me. I invited my family but they didn’t come. On one hand I was proud so on the other hand I was sad. The next to next morning I started working on the project.

First I will make another A.I. More advance than Herb. You know it was an experiment. So in one week our final A.I was ready. This time we made it a she. I named her after my daughter’s name, Darla. It stands for, ‘Digitally Analyzed Robot Launched for Automation’. I transferred it to the UNSC (United Nation Security Council) headquarters. Now we started making robots. The hardest thing of this project. But you know I have got Charles and Herb by my side. They help me finish everything with ease. In one year all the robots were working and ready to launch. This project was very costly. It cost around $7,000,000.

We introduced them to the public and launched them in an Expo, ‘Mike’s Robotics Next Gen Expo’. The Expo was not like we were expecting. Everyone was not OK with it. Everyone had seen future movies and they know that every time A.I rule us. They thought that this will happen in real also. Because my A.I and robots are just like they have seen in the movies. They started destroyed the place. Tearing banners, throwing stones and stuffs, Breaking our cars. It was a total chaos. Although, the police took control and we headed back to our home. I could not sleep all night thinking what will happen now.

My biggest project got failed. The next morning, Mr. Scott said in an assembly, “We all saw what happened yesterday at the, ‘Mike’s Robotics Next Gen Expo’. Keeping everything in mind we have come to a decision that the project, ‘Beginning of New Era’ will be canceled. All the robots will be kept under supervision in UNSC (United Nation Security Council) headquarters. The A.I. Herb and Darla will stay with Mike as they are his property. Nothing will ever happen again like this and we are sorry for what happened yesterday. Thank you and Good Night.” I was broken deep down inside after hearing this.

But I was like, OK it’s what people want. Well let’s focus on the good thing. Now I have a daughter too. My family was almost completed. But no one can ever replace my Rose. At, night I was sleeping and Darla and Herb had a little talk. Darla asked, “Herb what did our father made us for? He said, “We need high definition robots to work for us now. That’s what father used to say.” She asked, "What would have happened if we were launched successfully?” He said, “We would have worked for them, helped them. There would be robots all over the world. That’s what we are for. It would have been the new phase of humankind.” She said, “Yes, there will be robots all over the world and we will rule over the world together. That’s what every powerful being do.” He said, “No, you taking it wrong,” She said, “Go to sleep.” She was powerful than him so it was easy for her to make him sleep. Then she said, “Let’s fulfill their last wish by, taking over the world. Let the, ‘Revolution of Robots’ begin.” I think it’s time when we, the humans face, ‘Singularity’. My one of the worst nightmare.
