You Take So Much Away From Me
You Take So Much Away From Me
When taking was everything everyone did,
You were an angel without wings who gave
And expected nothing, but for a smile,
Many a life, though your grace, you did save.
Yet, by giving, much you took
‘Hey, it’s the angel, look look!’
When stray dogs come calling to your abode
You always seem to know what they needed
Fed them food, and looked them in the eye
Grateful, they quite were, yet, thanked them you did.
‘Thank you, angel,’ they whispered
‘Thanks, you ate from me,’ you said.
‘Come, come, you need some bread’, you called unasked,
Lighting a generous lamp in your guest’s heart
Anyone who knew you, walked this path of love,
Learning to give, wisdom that you impart
‘How are you so beautiful?’ they pined
‘See, my mama taught me well,’ you opined.
When an arm seeks alms it is tough for you,
For you become sad and happy at once.
‘Oh, good God, why do you make him suffer?’
You ask seeking an answer for aidance,
‘Oh God, thank you, he found me,’ you then pray,
Realizing you were the answer, His way.
You give so much, yet always, take much away,
You take more than you give for sure I thought
Oh God, I am so wrong, I realize,
For you are an angel and never sought
And I did give you my heart, in earnest guise
Seeing you in joy has no peer in paradise.
