You and Me
You and Me

When the moon is mellow on your skin, when the cicadas scream,
And the weather is damp and warm with small sweat droplets on your skin,
Then let's talk about us, shall we? You and me;
Of not so humble beginnings
Of annoyed sighs, of scorching glances
Of eye rolls and sneers and of scalding comments
Of frequent encounters that better not be destiny playing the strings
Of unpleasant small talks that could not be avoided.
Let's talk about the day things started to change,
Let's talk about us, shall we? You and me;
Of shy glances, and whispered words
Of smiles that wrinkled the sides of eyes
Of dates and shots, of mind- tricks and desires
Of days when you are all I think
Of co-incidences murmured as fates
Of declared obsession, and professed infatuation
Let's talk about today, shall we?
The crimson smear on your skin, your broken fingers and nails,
The stain of red on your carpet and the scarlet pool by your cold feet
The sound of rain against the last whisper of your breath
The last flutter of eyelids, and the musing of my bloodied hands on your hair
And the reminiscent of hope in your empty eyes
What? Didn't you ask about us? About you and me?
Were you wishing for a love story, where I bleed for you?
How typical!
It's a story about you and me, Of unresolved emotions and menacing demons.
