Transforming Sikhs Into Singhs

Transforming Sikhs Into Singhs

One day the Lubana Sangat of Delhi

Reached Anandpur to pay obeisances

After Asa Di Var in morning congregation

Guru Gobind Rai met the people from Delhi

Bhai Lakhi Shah Wanjara who very honourably

And bravely cremated the headless body of

Guru Teg Bahadur was also in this group

Tenth Guru asked him to narrate the incident

Bhai Lakhi Shah told in detail the whole story

How he got the chance for it, how the dust and

Lime powder from his carts were blowing around

And how he  managed to dodge the security

In confused and crowded place in dusky time

With obstructed visibility and chaos, he managed

To lift and hide the headless body in his cart and

Took it to his village Rakab Ganj to cremate it

Guru Goblins Rai further enquired from him

That there were Sikhs in Delhi too and didn't

Anyone come forward to protest this action

Or to claim the body for performing last rites

He told that everyday there used to be new

And varied types of agitations in Delhi and

So  the Sikhs were very fearful and timid

Apart from being poor and a few in number

Bhai Lakhi Shah elaborated that he could

Perform this act only with grace of God

Sikhs were shocked and very sad indeed

But had wavered in their faith and courage

At this Guru Gobind Rai indicated

And declared that he would soon prepare

A faith that would manifest itself in the world

In such a way that would be hard to ignore

From among the crowd of lakhs of people

A Sikh would be unique in his appearance

Easily recognizable and  as distinct as

Swan from cranes and horse from donkeys
